Have been doing some research recently regarding the BRC exams as they are a much cheaper option compared to bhs stage costs. And from what I've read on the internet, once you've achieved levels 1-3 you are then entitled to direct entry into stage 3.

Does anyone know about the BRC exams & their required level of standards. Level 3 included jumping a course upto 3ft which is obvioulsy only 3 inches under the pre-requistes of the Stage 3 exam.

Anyone know about the BRC exams?

Much the same as Pony Club exams big plus is you do most of them on your own horse.

Look at the rules carefully however. You are not allowed to sit your PTT until you pass Stage 3 by this route (Stage 2 directly)and generally if you opt for this route you are only allowed two attempts at passing Stage 3 or you start again with the BHS system.

I think really that to go into the BHS exams at Stage 3 is asking a lot of yourself as the whole point of their exams is that you are seen handling and riding horses you don't know (well except for college students but that is another topic!!)

While we train for various exams offering exemption from BHS stages I always recommend that those who are doing it as career training start with Stage 1 as it is far better to get used to the format with a very easy exam than go in at a higher level.

If I was to do the RC exams, I'll be doing it through my riding school anyway (it's a new scheme being launched, was in H&H last week) that's if the scheme takes off. Just so happens my RS is doing the pilot scheme.

I'm only interested in the RC exams because of cost - Stage 2 is £150 complete - RC exams are much cheaper. Thankfully I know the BHS system, have got my stage 1 and worked in a where to train yard for 3yrs/where I'm still riding

Maybe I'll give myself a gentle shove and book my stage 2. Been putting it off for so long.

I haven't seen the details of the scheme yet but I hope it is better than the pony Club scheme for Riding Schools.

We already had a system with BHS progressive tests, summer camp and regular riders stable club so when the PC scheme came along I found it hard to justify asking people to pay ther subscription, particulary as RS riders were limited to C test as a maximum and could not take part in interbranch activities except for Dengie which anyone can enter!

I wait to be convinced this will offer more than good schools already do.

From what I've read in H&H and on the BHS website - "it will give BHS affiliated RS clients the chance to take part in activities such as training, competitions and exams, that are normally only available to those who belong to a seperate riding club."

Would link to whole article but bhs website isn't working
