I think that's the most stupid way to learn how to jump. Galloping a pony around non stop over jumps for like 10 min. Also some of those rider look like they shouldn't even be cantering let along jumping! To start jumping you need a qualified coach who can guide you through ever step SAFELY. I won't even go into cutting the corners.

Actually to start jumping - you need to start jumping ! To get good you need lessons from a coach, and to go on jumping for fun.

Seriously those are tiny jumps and nobody (pony or person) is suffering.

That's a chase me charlie!!!!

I used to LLLOOOVVVEEE those when I was little.

You keep jumping until everyone has knocked themselves out of the comp by knocking down a pole so really the horses decide when you stop.

And I wouldn't go as far as condeming what you haven't tried really

It is a good way for youngsters to get confidence as there as rules to follow and the ponies/horses only jump for as long as they want to and whips aren't allowed!!!

I love chase me charlie comps, usually they get won by some feisty hairy cob that eveyone thinks is a complete plod but in truth is far too intelligent to jump big unless properly motivated! More power to cobs...

thats not chase me charlie.
chase me charlie is were you have one jump and it keeps going up until people knock it down etc.

I thought it might be chase me charlie, but the little pony and santa keep going even after refusals?

I always thought chase me charlie was more like puissance where you jump a single fence or a grid and keep putting up the heights until everyone knocks down/refuses?

Still the santa makes me laugh and the girl with the underwear?? on, oh and dracula, hahahahaa!

I don't think the horses are getting hurt but I think the riders might be at risk of injuring themselves!

Odd..must be some sort of game!

Notice how if the horse in front refuses/runs out the other one behind it does :P cheeky!

i dont like it, its messy and teaches your pony to rush.

Bizarre. No idea what it is - not what I'd call Chase-Me-Charlie but maybe there are different variations :shrugs:

I don't honestly see how it would have much value teaching kids to jump.

But there we go.

Maybe it's the orginaly 'chase me charlie'? The name would make more sense then.

Not too sure about learning anything from it but it certainly looks good fun:D

How do you know it was 10 mins? The clip is less than 2 mins?

Anyway it looks like they were having fun at an xmas party, not a lesson. No idea what its called though!

Looks a bit, unorganised. I wouldnt try it, last thing you need is your pony pulling you into a fence, or not jumping without a lead.

you are sooo right!! you dont all go round at the same time!! i couldnt belive my eyes when i saw that!! its dangerous and stupid, the girl on the black (looks fell or dales) pony bombing round at 100mph could have caused such a bad accident!! its pure luck that she didnt!! she nearly jumped ontop of the poor little tiny pony (welsh A i think its vrey blurred on my computer i dont know bout yours.) Do NOT try this at home!!

its called follow me fred. a different kind of chase me charlie.
i was told to play it a show once, and hated it felt i was ruining my horse as it was teaching him to rush. Didnt go for 10 mins at a time we did it in two minute rounds and if someone knocked it down the round was over. After every 2 minute round everybody walked round on a long rein for about 5 mins and they put all the jumps up one hole. kept going until i won!! still didnt like it though, felt unfair on the pony i was riding

FGS!!!!

It's only a kiddies having fun thing no harm done and I don't think that they would be doing it if it wasn't ok!!

Chill out peeps!! :p

my god. some of you better not ever go to pony club mounted games
you would be horrified at the cruelty!!! :D i mean , ponies and would you believe, weaving in and out of cones!! horrific. lol lol lol :p :D

Its an xmas party and looks like its teaching kids to have fun when riding, which , forgive if i am wrong, is what we where all supposed to do when we are young and able to ride fun ponies. :D

the best way to learn to jump confidently, is to get on and go. im sure most of those kids have had jumping lessons, so know the basics. Its all about fun and finding your own balance and seat.

the things we used to do as youngsters on ponies where ridiculous. We would be doing it bareback with no reins (and falling off in the middle no doubt) !!! that would be even more fun :D :D :D

I'll second Jenni...we should be doing this for the fun of it, right? And our horses should be having fun too, which I think it looked like most of them were! My mare would probably get a kick out of doing something like that (if she knew how to jump :()

I could not stop laughing at that Santa on the mini! I probably would have taken the mini out though and had the big hosses do one game, then minis do a separate.
