Hi
I quite found this website by accident, and as a new member, I was reading the western articles and these don't seem to be updated with questions since 2002/03. Have these pages/questions been updated since then?
I ride western in NZ and had to laugh that a friend of mine was in one of the pictures under "Working Cowhorse".

Hi and welcome to the site.
We do have a few people here who do ride western but I think it is mostly an english riding site. Please dont let that put you off as I said we have had people who ride or have rode western in the past and moved onto english for whatever reason.
Also dont let the update of the section deter you from asking questions. Sometimes questions are put in other sections for various reasons

There are quite a few of us on here who although are not Western riders are very interested in trying, I have had 8 lessons so far, but I would not count my self as a western rider as such. (see my links below for what I have been getting up to in my first few lessons).

They are like that. Once you try one lesson you get hooked.
I love western riding (was introduced to it through Katie_85 whilst visiting). Managed that better than I did english. Problem this end of the country is we have no instructors

Hi kiwiroxie and welcome to NR. I'm a western rider from the US. There are quite a few of us lurking around on here. There have been some recent western threads even within the past month, so maybe they are just getting posted under a different category.
What kind of riding do you like to do? I love trail riding and cow working, but I'm just learning about cows. I'm getting ready to start a 6 week Versatality Ranch Horse Preparation clinic. We are going to cover Ranch Western Riding, Ranch Trail, Ranch Reining, Ranch Cutting, and Working Cow Horse.

My impression is that there are loads of people who ride Western on the board, but the questions are mixed up with all the other threads in the Cafe and General areas - more people read them there.
Welcome to NR by the way!

Just go straight to "western" in the forum I do:) As said a lot of Western Riders talk on the other parts of the forum a lot in the NH section.
I hope to do western on Malaga when he's backed the idea being I'll have a quieter more relaxed mule

Thanks everyone for your comments, and its nice to be welcomed, thanks. Miriam in NZ it is the other way round, people who ride english are now going to Western, in a big way. Smaggi sounds like a good course, we don't do 6 week courses in NZ, wish we did sounds like fun.
I show western, our horses have to be versatile, e.g. do all classes, as western pleasure, trail, reining, cowhorse, etc, as there are shows, but riders do not really specialise in one event like US. I love trekking, and getting into reining.

kiwiroxie, nice to have another Kiwi on the site. I'm just getting into a bit of western after riding English for 15 years.
I think you mean the actual information part of the site here:
http://www.newrider.com/Specialisms/Western/western_index.html
rather than the western forum like I'm assuming the other posters are thinking?

Outrider and I, along with a few other members were working on it back then. Since Outrider's departure, we just kind of let it go. :(

Yes Cochise that is the website I am referring to. That is sad Katie, if you need any help in updating this let me know, I am glad to help if I can.
Cochise thanks, I have ridden both english and western, I have a QH mare that was broken in western, but she is x with tb, so abit forward going for the western events, so I put her into Fed. dressage, and got her up to Novice until she put her foot in a fence, just got her in foal to a really nice QH stallion :)

Mine's app X TB, and too bouncy to be fantastic at western events. ;) He was a brill jumper. I'm doing my rookie rider points on him, won our hunt seat equitation the other month. Getting brave and doing rookie trail, horsemanship and pleasure at an upcoming show in February. May as well get my rookie points on the horse I have to ride two handed! :) We just do it for fun. When I have more money some day, I'll look into a nice QH mare as I'm dying to learn the art of reining. :D

Hi, Kiwiroxie. Welcome to the forums!
I don't know anything about the articles, but if you go to the main Message Board index page you can scroll down to the Western forum
http://newrider.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=32.
There are always good discussions going on there.
I ride western sometimes and English (dressage) sometimes.
