Info on Fjords please

I have decided to buy a Fjord.
I currently own an exmoor whom i am keeping cos she's wonderful.
I would like a white dun or grey dun and a youngster 6 months so i can bring it up myself as i have done with my exmoor. Having said that, if a slightly older one was available and with the right temperment i would consider this
Can anyone point me in the right direction, i am in no rush.
Would also like to know what sort of money i am looking at and anything else i should be aware of.

I think that the colours you want are less common than the other duns seen in fjords but the rarest colour is yellow dun.

Money, erm.. I guess it depends on several things (overall):
  1. its sire/dam
  2. registered?
  3. imported fjords can be cheaper
  4. any winnings at comps
  5. broken to ride/drive
  6. vices
    etc...

Thats just a few things to look at, although you specified you wanted a youngster. Ive seen a few youngsters which were around £2000 at 2yo.

My 3 and 1/2 year old cost me £1750, not broken in and not yet registered (with GB).

hope that helps a little bit

I have never seen a young fjord for sale, presume there are studs about though.
you might be better off importing one, it only cost my friend £600 to bring a russian warmblood over.

I would advise you to have a youngester and bring on yourself if you have experience.
We had our via the Ausdan Stud in Lampeter, Mid Wales. I believe it is the largest stud in Britain and has some of the top stallions in the country. Lyn Moran is co-owner and also secretary of The Fjord National Studbook of Great Britain. This is the Society website http://www.fjord-horse.co.uk/index.htm. The Society are very helpful and they will be able to tell you what youngesters are available from members.
You need to take care with imported horses as they often have incorrect papers and registration for pure bred fjords is very strict.
Our fjord was just over 3 years when we bought her and is DNA tested, microchipped and came with full papers. Her temprament is superb. She has been a pleasure to break and back and is now hacking around the farm steadily
