PTT and stage 3

hi guys!
just wondering if anyone has taken the PTT lately?? i have mine booked for april and am REALLY stressing about it! it just seems to me that since they have altered the syllabus the pass rate has become very erratic, especially where i am training. am also a bit worried cos the new revision publications for this are not out yet!! the whole portfolio thing confuses me immensely and i cannot afford to not pass this exam!! (not only cos its costing me £185 that i didnt really have but i am also pushing it age-wise and want to get on with my life and not have to live on a students wage!) any help / advice for anyone doing / recently taken this exam would be greatly apprieciated!!!!
also i have got my stage 3 in may (i know, stress central) any tips for the care side of things??
thanks all who have read

I have one client taking it in March and like you we are very worried about the whole portfolio business. It seems to be redefined about every 6 months and at the moment the registration for UKCC seems to commit you to a definate and short timetable for passing PTT and Stage 3, which doesn't suit everyone.

I haven't really met anyone who does understand portofilios, supervisers and approved assessors, even some of the approved assessors don't know what their role is. Latest we heard was that PTT examiners will not be signing off on portfolio lessons prepared for the exam, so how when and where will they be?.

If you want I will keep you up to date on what we hear, hopefully as training centre we should be kept up to date.

I am struggling with the Coaching Certificate Level 1 as well, the one for 'helper' instructors with Stage 1, anyone with any info on this?

thanks eml! nice to know im not the only one confused! i wish they had just stuck to teaching hours, alot more practical.
i went to a demo with patrick print back in the autumn and he was answering questions on the whole UKCC thing afterwards, even he wasnt 100% sure what was going on.
I also just went on to the BHS website and the price for stage 3 complete for 2008 is £195!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I can't be much help - used to be a 'guinea pig' in the old style exams, but haven't seen the new ones at all.

But I think I can see why they redesigned the whole PTT thing.

However the BHS have not done their job - everyone is confused and no-one seems to know what's expected of them. Some instructors I spoke to weren't even aware it had changed.

Anyway, the best suggestion I have is to look up a BHS examiner in your area and book a lesson with them.

Good luck - and don't forget to tell us all about it!

Unfortunately not even the examiners fully understand this, I have talked to a chief examiner who is also on the training comittee and he admits that there are problems but that is more to do with the UKCC than the PTT. It is still possible to do PTT alone and convert later if you want, daughter is going to do the IT/UKCC3 conversion once everyone sort themselves out.

As far as the PTT exam goes you need to make everything more interactive, not just 'instruct' but try to get feedback in all your sessions, no more 5 minute lecture, now Q&A with prepared aids, lessons encouraging riders to contribute not just instructional drill rides as was often seen in the past.
