Well here is a warning to all of those who have taken the time to train horses and ponios to go through gates after opening them and then shutting them.
Kia I trained to do this since the forestry commission put gates up to stop the quads getting into the forests, They are fairly good gates with great levers for opening in horse back but they are very narrow so as not to allow the quaders in.
Kia normally goes through them no bother and the other day was no exception. opened, went through then shut gate. Went for two laps of the forest, its a half mile track on grass that we normall do in canter/gallop depending on how Kia is feeling lol.
Well all was jolly then on the way out jen called me asking what I was up to. Opened the gate and Kia was just about through when the wind caught the gate and cracked him on the hocks.
Well I ended up with him on the hind legs then firing forwardf and cue head down and broncing. managed to stay on but couldnt get the head up so lastd about 150/200 yards down the road where I got dumped in the ditch with a sturrup still wrapped around my leg
Checked nothing was broken and walked back to the yard to find my pony, he always bolts home

.
My shins started ti hurt so ignored them until I caught Kia then got him seen to and eventually checke my legs well this was the sight that met me.
These were taken when I got home as the camera was in the house
I smashed my shins on the posts of the gate as Kia jammed through is the only thing I can think of as I defiantely didnt hit tarmac as I cam off the other side into the ditch. Swelling has just went down today and I did this on Monday. Nice welcome home gift from my ponio lol.
He is find hocks were a bit warm the next day and he was stiff but lunged him the other day and today and he is fine and able to buck and fart about as normal lol
So remember narrow gates and the wind dont mix
