how to explain.....

I want to arrange to go and have a lesson, but how do I explain that I don't want to jump? I just want to do flatwork. Has anyone tried to explain this before? RS is probably show jumping orientated like the rest so they'll probably think I'm very odd for not wanting to jump lol.

Why not have a private lesson, then they can tailor it exactly to your requirements?

Just say you only want a flatwork lesson when you book, no need to explain why.

I just show up in my dressage saddle - that usually fixes it.

When you book do what carthorse says and ask for a flatwork lesson (might do some trotting poles but that should be it). I can't imagine they would ask why you only want a flatwork lesson but if they do then you can just say you want to improve your flatwork. Its your lesson so do what you want!

a woman in my riding class said to our RI that she didnt want to jump just do flatwork and the RI doesnt really take much notice of her, she's been jumping this last two weeks despite what the woman said. Seems to be that jumping is the 'be ll and end all' to some RIs. Why is that when dressage is popular, that's why some people might not want to jump they may be interested in dressage instead.
