TREC winter series

Lucyad, Capalldubh and myself decided to have a wee go at the Winter Series Trec competiton yesterday. None of us had ever done anything like it (in fact, it was Capalldubh and Jacksons first ever party of any sort!). I was blind terrified at the thought of taking Arnie into an arena and we really didnt have a clue what to expect.

And it turns out we had a whale of a time

Arnie took to it far better than I had hoped for. We had a minor technical hitch with a scary shed in the slow canter and fast walking was apparently also not an option (it was much easier to jog). The low branches foxed me completely but the organisers let my pal lead me under them at the end (and I knocked them down with my backside). He walked over all the scary tarpaulin things and bending is clearly our forte (although we managed zero for it as I missed the final cones).

I managed to come last but I prefer to think of it as "leaving some room for improvement".

Jackson was a star - he took most things in his stride and was particularly keen on the jump at the end - he took off in canter looking for some more to jump

And Oscar, big Oscar - who refused point blank to even look at our practice version of low branches last week. I'll let the photos tell their own story!

Arnie

and my little Splash puppy (it was his first horse show too!)

And Oscar (Trec superstar in the making judging by these low branches!)

Congratulations.

That looks fabulous fun! And Arnie is like my Izzy but with a white tail - a very nice and clean white tail!!

I am doing a half day Trec training course in May, am really looking forward to it. The mounting will have us stumped though, takes me 5-10 minutes without help as he can be a right pain.

Tiga, been there and feel your pain with mounting. I have spent a long long time clicking and treating for mounting and now he stands rock solid.

And as for the white tail - I had been told there was a professional photographer there - cue lots of chalk and brushing (it was too cold to bath him or he would have been even cleaner!)

Hi
I saw your pictures they are very nice, i like to give you a little suggestion if you don't mind, just straight line it is not enough, i don't know if you do also big, and small circle's, to develop suppleness, and more balance, and another gymnastic exercise that is very good is abit of literal work in walk, to supple all the body of the horse.
Have a nice ride.
