Hunter classes - conf critique

I am hoping to do some hunter classes this summer at local level with my "wee" lad (18hh). He would be a heavy weight but currently needs a bit more weight and general muscle tone.

What do you guys think to his conformation? Be honest

Thanks Liz

very nice
but ditch the flash and get a rugby pelham with a long shank and nice thick, flat bridle to compliment his head. Just sold one that would have been ideal, it had a noseband nearly 2" wide
ooh, and no numnah.
perhaps go for a dry run and post another pic after a bath and when plaited up so you can compare the two too.

Agree with the flat noseband and no flash, but def not changing his bit to a pelham just for the sake of it. It would be worth trying on on him (try a cambridge mouth - they're generally well accepted by the horse) and use it for shows if he likes it, but if he's happy in his snaffle I'd just leave him.

And again, I don't think he needs any more weight. More muscling, yes, but certainly not more fat!

Thanks guys, he has just came back from being backed (he is 6 this yr) so is still in walk and trot. The bridle is an old one as he still want to eat the reins when not ridden so I am not putting on his new one yet but it is a nice hunter bridle by jeffries.
When his training has moved on a bit I will put him in a double but thats a way off yet
