How big is your incubator? Cause if it holds 6 eggs I wouldnt expect 6 chicks, and then theres a few that dont make it unfortunately

But yay for chicks What eggs are in there?
I have an incubator full of guinea fowl eggs atm!

It holds 8 eggs Rather new to this chicken thing as you can tell

They're all Black French Marans, fingers crossed they're okay but I guess it's to be expected if some don't make it unfortunately.

Just Googled them, and they look lovely Good luck with them, I wish I had some little babes in 3 weeks!!

Searched guinea fowl too - Gosh, posh or what ?!

If I ever do get any chickens though (which I hope to do in the future) I would like Silkie Chickens, they have afro's and everything

Pretty chucks! I really want some hens but need to get the horsey side of things finished first before I start on anything else lol, I want mostly ex batts but might get a couple of fancy hens if I have space. (the silkies are quite appealing, they are so weird looking but in a nice way lol )

I think once the chicklets are all grown up we're going to get some ex-batts, they deserve it.

French Marans are apparently one of the best for laying regularly - around 200 a year. Going down to pets at home today to see if they sell starter food...was thinking crumbs because I suspect the mash would just get lobbed everywhere, but depends what they have I guess.

I can't wait to see what we get. If we get a ****, the general plan is to keep it at our allotment - but can cocks live together in like a batchelor group, or would it be kinder to give the cocks away so they can have some laydeez?

It is mostly hard to find homes for cockerels. They could all probably live together, as long as you dont ever separate them. You can easily introduce very young cockerels together, but adult cockerels will never get on if introduced at a late age. We currently have 5 cockerels living together.

Warrens (battery hens) are claimed to be the best layers, but they will only lay 300 eggs a year in a battery cage, take them out of it and they are rubbish at laying!

Also, crumb can just be put with water to make mash, so if you get that you have the option of both. I use crumb cause its easier to clean up.
