What to feed my 6 month welsh cob foals.....

When i got my foals 2 weeks ago they had been weaned on ewe nuts .And because i have to order my feed at the feed merchants i ordered a bag of D&H build up and basic pony nuts just to get me through the first couple of weeks.They are both eating it well with a handful of chaff to bulk it out and both out in the day in a small turnout paddock (about 20x60) for excercise really not much grazing, but i do put a full haynet out for them as the grazing isn't much at this time of year and large haynet each on a nightime.

The colt is in good condition but the filly is bum high and needs to put a bit more condition on really she doesn't seem to eat as much as the colt (haywise)

I have wrote to Baileys and they suggested using there stud mix/cubes and stud balancer and they supplied me with a feeding chart, it just seems the ammounts seem a bit extravagent to me.

Has anyone any advice for feeding native weanlings before i order from the feed merchants.

What do you feed your weanlings for the first 6 months after weaning? brands and ammounts please.

i fed my section A the Baileys stud balancer with some chaff untill he was a year old. Although mine was out daytime of fairly good grass and a big net at night.

Youngstock at work are fed D&H mare and youngstock mix with some chaff if they need it

I feed mine;

Cob (14 months) - Handful of chaff, Scoop of fibrebeet, 1/2 scoop of stud cubes, will be stopping the stud cubes when they are finished and replacing with a naf vit & min supplement plus veg oil, carrots & apples. He gets this feed morning and night because of it being winter, he won't get a feed in Summer.

TB (7 months) - Morning handful of chaff, 1/2 D&H Suregrow, 1 scoop fibrebeet. Evening she gets 2 handfuls of chaff, 1/2 D&H Suregrow, 1 scoop fibrebeet and veg oil.

Don't forget to check their worm status, very important with foals.
When I got my poor little yearling last year he was full of worms and it's no good wasting all your expensive food on them.

They have both been wormed, the first week they were with me and will be done regularly because i know foals are more at risk. but thanks for reminding
