When to worm and what

Me again - this web board is brill and resolving so many questions I have. As an old timer, I'm sure I know this stuff but it is good to hear your comments and thoughts.

I am caring for two - one 16hh 10 year old working and one 12hh companion pony 17 yo and not working due to wind pipe problem.

I think that they probably have not been wormed so what should I do, give them and what would you guys recommend that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg!! As I'm not paying the bills - for once!!

Thanks again, Rosie

I have been using a plan I think maybe on the information section of new rider (not forum), when you worm spring, summer , autumn and winter... Now if they havent been wormed, if your quick I would probably get some normal wormer down and some stuff for tapeworm (they are supposed to be got Sept/Oct time I think, and then again in the spring wormer)... I used the Equimax I think its called - but you need one that covers roundworms etc as well as tapeworms, or use a couple to get them all covered. The winter will just be for roundworms, and then this autumn one again in the spring... Pramox do a year box I think, about £50 get a roundworm and tapeworm down them now (About £13 for Equimax online), and get a year box for next year

If I take a horse on with an unknown worming history, I would give Panacur five day course and a product to target tape worm, such as Equitape.

Hope that helps.

Equest do the year pack.

Recently i used Panacure 5 day guard and bimectin on a young horse that had now worming history.

I used Equest for my filly a couple of weeks ago.

From February i will be using the Equest year pack on both of mine, the pramox will cover tapeworm as it is a broad spectrum wormer.
