A slighty stronger bit?

At the moment Poppy has a loose ring French link snaffled - happy mouth. I would like something slightly stronger for hacking as we up the pace a bit she is getting stronger. I think it's temporary "I'm feeling fitter and it's spring time" high-jinx but I'd just like a bit more insurance.

The bit she has at the moment is probably the mildest you can get so I'm not talking about wanting some kind of monster bit. Just the next level up.

Any thoughts??

Funnily enough fellow livery got tanked off with in a happy mouth the other day.

YO has made her change to a metal french link - problem solved!!! Pony comes back nicely now.

Thanks, perhaps the happy mouth is just a little soft.... hmmmm. I'm trying to remember but I think the dentist said she had a big tongue so french link would be best really. Hmmmmm.

I used to hut my little stallion in a rubber 2 rein Pelham. Top rein for when everything was going to plan and the bottom rein to remind him when he got above himself.

I was considering a pelham for schooling anyway but she overbends at the slightest excuse (I reckon she's been draw-reined in the past ) and I don't want to encourage it. Having said that her other favourtie evasion is to stick her neck out straight and lift her chin upwards...

But when she's strong out hacking she is overbending and setting her neck against my hands.

She's such a delight.

If she goes OK in a french link (albeit a plastic one), my next port of call would be a metal one. From fellow liveries experience last Saturday - she now has brakes!!!

And hers preferred it to the happy mouth WITH flash - YO said to me, have made her stick a flash on because she is against swapping the mouthpiece - won't be long before she comes around to a metal french link - ooh, took two days!!
