Wonderful world of pony ownership!

I've recently joined the wonderful world of pony owners, and can say I've never been happier.

I only started riding 8 years ago and had always ridden horses.

I've had horses in the past on 2 occasions which I really felt I got on well with both riding and on the ground........ then along came Dandy!!

The first time I saw him he was brought over to our by his owner to use our school facilities.
I knew from word of mouth that they maybe selling him as the young girl wanted to progress onto something bigger.

They came over one night at the beginning of December to use the floodlit arena.

Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am not the most confident of riders when it comes to a new situations or new horses but I got on this pony that I didn't know, had never seen before, in a very spooky, shadowy place (that he had never been in before) and walked trotted and cantered,(my instructor was watching at the time and couldn't beleive what I was doing)

I have never had anything feel sooooo right as when I first sat on him.

The owner agreed to let me have him on trial for a few weeks as their yard was only a few miles away and they could keep an eye on him.

Had him vetted the week before xmas and paid for him on 23rd of December.

He was my best Chrissie Pressie ever!!

So now I am the very proud Mummy of a Dun 14hh1 Welsh sec D who is 8yrs old and haven't stopped grinning since.

I just wish I'd discovered ponies years ago.

Yaye for you! Sounds like you've found the perfect pony partner! I have a weakness for ponies - but alas haven't got one!!! (yet). I have Storm a connie x - she's 15hh - I call her a small horse when she's being good and a pony when she's being naughty and cheeky!!! hehehe. Glad you're happy and having fun - its great when it "clicks" - sounds like you must have felt really comfy with him when you tried him in the school.

Xmas pics

Here are the promised pics.
Tried to do it last night but NR wouldn't let me login for some reason.

Soon as weather improves will take some more.

This is my first attempt so hopefully it will work.

Is photobucket the best/easiest way to add pics?

He is gorgeous - a lovely colour, and very slim/fit looking. He looks big to me too (I have a 12.2hh Exmoor mare) I am sure you will have lots of fun together.

Thanks for all the lovely comments.
He lhe does look bigger in the pics than he actually is .

Have got a lesson tomorrow so will get my instructor to take some of me riding so you'll see he's not really that big!

Was wondering how often everyone else here rides.
Do you ride every day?

The reason I ask is because my previous horses were on working livery so were ridden at least once a day for six days a week.

I can probably realistically ride 3 maybe 4 times a week.

Is that enough??

Would appreciate you thoughts on this.

I don't actually ride my ponies, as they are both youngsters, but i'd say that'd be fine.. it's what others on my yard do even with big horses. I'm sure any horse/pony on working livery is fed according to their workload... or so you'd hope.. that'll be something to take into account as you go along.
