Working pupil courses

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,
I am currently training for my BHS exams by employment as a working pupil. However I am now looking for a new yard to train with as the last place I was at (an approved BHS riding school, but not approved training centre) has completely messed up my riding.
Whilst there I broke my arm and injured my back due to the unorthodox ways the owner trained us staff. The last "lesson" I had with her she caused my horse to buck, leap and bronc around the school in a mad panic by repeatedly whipping its hindquarters with the lunge whip, which she found highly amusing, resulting in the horse being so scared it actually fell over trying to get away from her. Don't get me wrong I usually find the odd buck quite fun but this was not straightforward bucking! The horse was petrified! After a while of staying on I lost a stirrup and was eventually flung off and this is how I hurt my back. This is a horse that never usually bucks and is also on a daily intake of bute to "mask" his lameness. Not only did this damage the horse it has made me realise I need to find somewhere new to train!
This was the last straw in a string of incidences, including bullying, dangerous practices, lack of training and the owner having an affair!
Does anyone know of a genuinely good BHS approved yard that takes working pupils? I live in the essex area but dont mind travelling further away for a live-in position. Im currently working towards my BHS stage 2 and would like to find somewhere asap so I don't get rusty! also I hate not being around horses so need to find somewhere fast so I can get my fix! Must be friendly and with correct training.
I'd really appreciate any feedback from anyone.
Many thanks!

Hi can't help, but really think you should complain to the BHS about the school, sounds an awful place. Glad you have escaped! Good luck x

Thanks I'm glad I escaped there too! I may just do that. She has already been disciplined by an examiner at the BHS for incorrect training for a certain exam. x

they take working pupils and have a mobile home on the land but don't know if someone is using it at the mo.

Approx 60 horses, (20 are riding school, the rest are liveries). Fantastic facilities, 2 indoor schools, 2 outdoor schools, daily turnout, you are responsible for approx 4 horses each day, you get a lesson (on either a riding school horse, or on one of the liveries) and a lecture every day. Live in if you want it, very friendly and nice atmosphere.

Have a look on the BHS website, as they have a list of accredited training centres (I think there's a 'where to train' link)...

Hope you find something soon.
