Jumping - Related Distances



Hi there can anyone help and solve this confusion to me - everytime I try and get a definition of Related Distances in jumping - I seem to get different answers.

It depends what you mean by defenition.

Related Distance jumps are for example 2 jumps a number of full strides between them. There is no set amount, I have seen people do 2 jumps with a stride between them called related distance, the same as i have seen 3 jumps with the 2 strides between each called a related distance. I believe the only stipulation is that they all have to be on the same straight line.

as i understand it, what makes a related distance is that you can adjust the stride so you can have (for instance) 7 long strides or 8 short strides. the stride difference needs to be enough so that the rider has to make a decision and actively ask for long or short, not just "sit there".
doubles or trebles aren't related distances, as they're counted as one jump.
