A small problem...

When I ride my welsh pony in from the feild, or sometimes anywhere,(bareback) I hear this little clicking from his right back leg...bone, the high part, kinda the thigh or something, and I dont know what it is! its like a quiet clicking.
Any help? please? I don't know if its a problem..??

Sounds like the stifle joint. The clicking is the tendon, which joins the muscle to the bone, moving over the joint. Keep an eye on it - watch out for any signs of lameness.

If you are worried, please call the vet.

hmm

is it clicking like bone snapping??? or is it some other sounding click? and is it a gelding because gelding tend to have a clicking sound that has something to do the with the sheath or something like that.

the gelding noise is more like a squelch then a real click, i think it's got soemthing to do with air getting trapped but i don't know, my mare goes a bit clicky soemtimes not often though, could be the hip clicking??!!
how old is he??
it's not the hooves tapping then??
you may want to get someone in to check it out, but it could just be old age, if not then i would suggest getting it seen!!

Dipity does this a lot. As some one says, it is the stifle joint. How old is your horse/pony? He probably needs some oil/veteran supplement if he is getting on a bit. Dipity has Mobility, which stops hers clicking, cod liver oil and 16+, a veteran mix.

If your pony is not old/getting old, then you may need to call the vet.

My horse clicks too, but i think hers is because she had a bone spavin 5-6 years ago, she has cod liver oil in her meals and in the winter i'm thinking of adding some easy joint supplement or something cos she can get a bit stiff on it. If you are worried i'd get a vet to take a look or ring them and describe it and see if he can suggest anything. Good luck

my pony clicks sometimes - when he was vetted the vet said it was a small air sack (or similar, probably a technical term ) on his hock, which clicks sometimes. No lameness, no pain - which is good

My gelding's 13 and I often hear his leg clicking. I asked the vet when he came to give him a flu jab and he said some horses just click! (Does that make sense?) I'm still concerned though...
