Proud of my boy!

I am a horse owner for the first time when I am WAY closer to 40 than 30

Cody arrived on Tuesday afternoon and was wormed that evening so has been in his stable since - he goes out tomorrow. He has met his pony companion so that should go OK.

Wednesday I lunged him for about 10 mins and just rode him down the road and back with the pony.

I didn't ride him yesterday but took him out alone tonight and he was a star!

The ride was only about a couple of miles but in that time we saw:-
  • normal traffic
  • other horses in a field
  • cows in a field with calves who were running around
  • sheep in a field
  • a tractor with a sprayer on a narrow road
  • a 4-wheel drive with an empty, loud trailer
  • a VERY loud land rover
  • kids playing footie in a garden

He didn't bat an eyelid! And I haven't hacked out in years either so I thought we did well.

He is quite a bit broader and longer striding than the riding school horses I have been on recently so I think I will ache till we get used to each other!

Anyway - I think that Cody and I will get on just fine and my confidence has increased a lot just from tonight.

In fact - this is me right now (and it isn't from the glass of red!)

what a little star to behave so well and so soon in his new home

i hope he gives you loads of happiness. there will be bad days as well but hold onto this memory for those times when you are not going well! he sounds lovely. I got my first horse when I was 40 so I know how it feels, very anxious making, all that responsibility, particularly if you have wanted one for a long time.

Congratulations and Well Done.

Cody sounds wonderful.

I felt exactly the same when I got DP in December.

I kept waiting for my 'bubble to burst' cos he was just soooo perfect and now six months down the line he hasn't put a foot wrong and my 'bubble' is still intact!

Lets have some piccys.

xxx

Thanks all. He went out for the first time today - he is currently kept with just one other pony and they have met in the stables but went out together for the first time and were both excellent. They had a little trot then got down to the serious business of eating and ignored each other!

Cody has really only done hunting and hacking (the dealer I bought him from got him over from Ireland) so he does need a fair bit of work on his schooling but that will come. I am just pleased he has settled in so well and seems to be so laid back.

I will get some pics soon!
