Darcy is a naughty boy

He is still lame after being kicked so no work . His manners have gone compleatly after just over 2 weeks in his stable. He has equine touch just over a week ago and bit my arm while I was holding his lead rope. Walked him around the school on sat he kept nipping me and shaking his head at me but settled down after a few mins. Tonight I though he might like another walk round the school after his groom (he was an good lad while being brushed) I put out a few poles and a traffic cone to make the walk more interesting - he kept nipping me and shaking his head at me. I tried making him back away he would be good for a few steps then nip at me again
I dont quite know what to do ... any one got any ideas?

My horse is the same when on box rest (at the mo!) he does it cause hes bored and wants to play im sure, nips never hurts or really puts his teeth out just gets my clothes in his mouth or his lips on me! He is also very impatient when standing to be groomed and head flicks which drives me mad! He has got a yard he goes in though and a tiny paddock with a little grass. One thing that I found helps is when he wants to play play with him but make him do something for your attention/ treat. Ie ! My horse has now learnt if he stretches his head between his legs he gets a treat,he has also come to terms with being turned out in school and playing walk trot games with me, and also rolling in the wettest patch! Be inventive really he just wants some company, one thing that worked with a horse at my yard was if he bit the owner pinched him back and he soon stopped sounds harsh but better than shouting or making a fuss over it! Hope that helps!

Thanks lots blushin_bex, needed some reasurance it is normal for him to be like that. I know he is bored and wants work all he can do is walk at the moment. Will try the treat to distract him and pinch him if he get to nippie.
I will come up with some more games for us to do in the school - might make him more bomb proof.
Thanks lots

Try doing a google search for the parelli 7 games or similar. Will occupy his mind but without moving his feet too much. I have been doing them with Jazz even though she is lame as she never gets out of a slow walk so I cant see it will do any harm.
