Showing for other people
I'm looking for someone to show my ponies and cobs for me, the lady who was going to do it can no longer do it next season due to an operation she will be having next year. I don't want to send them away to a producer, but would prefer someone with a little bit of experience to do it from home where I can get them ready at home, do all the preperation and they show them on the day or they can get more involved if they want to. I'm prepared to pay for any time or I'd be happy for them to produce if they want to in exchange for rides or for doing what ever other classes other than the ones I want them to do. I'd be happy for them to take one off to do xc days and do any other riding activities as well if the person was a capable enough rider etc, really I am open to suggestions. Person does'nt have to be a professional at all, although I do want someone who knows a little so they can show my ponies to the best of their capabilities. Perhaps a teenager who has shown and competed on their own pony but has had to sell due to exams so can compete on/with quality horses and ponies but without having to have the spare time for mucking out and preperation etc. I own champion bred ponies of good quality and because of this I thought I'd easily find someone but have been told by quite a few people that they very much doubt that I would as people usually will only produce from their own yard.
So my question is, if you had the chance to show or compete on quality ponies and cobs and had the time would the fact that you could'nt move them to your own yard put you off? All I ask is that the person is honest, reliable, capable, able to plait my part breds and above all FUN!! I thought it would be a good opportunity for someone but I've been told otherwise.

I have a friend who competes/shows mine in exchange for helping out. She also grooms for another friend. As she cannot afford to keep or buy one of her own, and I need a hand it works out very well for us. Tbh competing has been none existant since granddaughter appeared but probably later this year we will start doing some little local lead-rein stuff.

It's nice to hear. I have had a few people interested through word of mouth but most 11 - 13 years with no experience. We're in Powys btw. So putting up some local adds may be an idea. There is no work really as a couple of friends help out when need be but none really interested in showing howeber if the person wished to come down and help they could.

The best bet is to look at people who show in slightly different classes but at the same shows as you and ask them to ride for you. If you have small Welsh look for show pony riders etc., for part breds look at those who ride purebreds. Basically as long as you never in the same class it should work well.

You'll definately get lots of interest (it's a great oppertunity for someone), but be careful who you choose. Most experienced or professional people like to produce from their own yards for several reasons - it's easier to school and prepare them if they're on site, it's more flexible, they can prepare them to their exact specifications (regarding exercising, feeding, turnout etc) and fashion them into the type of horse/pony they want to be seen on in the ring. If you're experienced at producing for the show ring, you'll find it easy to find someone to ride for you.
I sometimes ride for other people, both from my yard and with horses living away, it's definately easier having them living with me, but with a good owner who's not too far away it's very nice to be able to turn up at a show and just get on!!
My gut feeling is that someone at college or university might be what you're looking for, however if you've got show ponies or show hunter ponies you'll find it tricky to find someone young enough to ride, but old enough to produce a pony to a good standard.
What sort of level are you wanting your ponies and cobs to compete at? And how many do you have?

We are only a small stud having 9 section a, b, d and partbreds. It's mainly inhand work I want doing but am happy for whoever it is to do other ridden classes if they wish or jumping, or driven. I don't mind starting at local show and working up really. I just want to see them getting out there and competing. We're in Powys.
