Driving vocabulary

As I am writing my MSc thesis in English, but my native language is Norwegian, I need some help with my vocabulary. I need to know the correct English word for driving with one horse, and with two horses side-by-side. (Stupid, really -I know the words "tandem" and "troika", but I don't know the words for the normal driving...)

Thanx in advance!

Right, one horse in harness by himself is known as driving single.

A pair side by side is just that, pairs driving. Pairs vehicles have a pole which goes between the two horses which is attached to their collars which is how the steering works.

A tandem is one in front of the other using a 2 wheel cart with shafts. A "randem" is 3 in a line and only used in shows to demonstrate the skill of horse and driver.

" four in hand" or a team. Mostly applies to 4, but can be applied to a team of three as well, two side by side nearest the cart and one leading in the middle. This is also known as a "unicorn"

If you are driving a team of 6 it is refered to as "6 in hand" and so on.

Troika is 3 in a line using a special cart.
