mmm lovely white tail

i read somewhere (maybe here) about using persil liquid on white tails. i looked at petal's tail on thursday (getting ready for bath and west) and cried, so i got some ariel handwash liquid, thinking at least it would be as good as anything else. and it sparkled! and it was white! not yellow! or brown! and then we got to the show and it was so muddy we had to be towed in. and i cried again. but we got 2nd in hand, and 9th ridden, so my in hand trousers that are in the garden waiting to be hosed off before they can go in the washing machine, and the jodhpur boots that were filled with mud because it was that deep in the ring (lets not even mention the state of my socks) were a worthy sacrifice. but to get back to the point, clothes detergent is great for filthy tails!

I would be careful if you have a horse with sensitive skin though. Try to use a non-bio version (not sure if handwash is or not) because biological detergents contain enzymes (and bleaching agents) which can cause reactions in people, so possibly could in horses too!!

Great idea though!

i wouldn't recommend using it on the top of the tail - only below the dock! forgot to mention that bit - cheers!

I use Fairy liquid-keeps your hands soft and great for socks!

I have a paint stud horse, & after a mare leaves here he is filthy ! I found in my local feed store Bright White. I can wet him down with it & take the water hose, spray him & write my name on him ! Also the lady I bought him from used WOOLITE it works very good on the yellowing. Hope this helps some of you out there.
