Well feels like a while since I have updated so here goes - sorry to bore everyone!
One of my last posts was about my instructor suggesting I join a group and I basically come away feeling that she was frustrated teaching me. Well I took her advice and joined the group and love it! Its not really a group just me and another lady on her own horse and the instructor is very fun to work with. I have since heard from a couple of people that the other instructor does not enjoy teaching adults.
So first question - is it a well known fact that kids pick up horse riding quicker than adults because they just 'feel' it rather than over think it?
Anyway back to me... my arena progress is lots of walk, trot, canter transitions and working on getting the horse to soften/lower head and some flexion etc which I am finding quite challenging but enjoying it. I also have had the opportunity to canter some cones
Apparently the horse did some flying changes but I have no idea about what that should feel like etc.
Out of the arena I have been on two treks in the last couple of weeks. The first had some very fast canters uphill which I couldn't sit to (think I posted about that)
At the weekend I did the Pakari beach ride here (totally recommend it) did a 3 hour ride and this was the first time I have been on a more forward going/spooky horse - lots of little jumps to the side throughout so was always on my guard. Fabulous canters through the sand dunes - one
moment when the horse bucked mid canter but managed to stay on. And the biggest
moment when we cantered up a hill then down a steep drop - have no idea how I stayed on!
Next question - what is the best position when cantering down a hill?
Finally I am meeting a lady this week who needs a riding companion. Basically she has two horses and wants someone to ride her older horse while she exercises a newer one she has. She wants to meet me first and put me on her horse to see how we fit. She is very much aware I am a begginner and most of the riding will be brisk walking in the forest which sounds great! She even wants to put me on a lead rein first to build my confidence so she sounds very safety conscious. So I am very excited. Lets hope I get on with the horse!
SO am totally addicted to this horse thing !!
