Dutch warmbloods - photos??
Please can someone define a dutch warmblood for me?
We are buying my daughter her second pony and our YO has bought a full up 14.2 gelding for us to consider.
Just shipped over from Holland last week.
YO is not sure at the moment but thinks that he might be a dutch warmblood (X?).
He is very muscular, with a solid arched neck, a big face and massive butt. Legs are solid but not over wide.
Very good on the flat, fantastic outline, and a big jump. He is forward going, a little strong but very stoppable.
Without photos I appreciate it is difficult for anyone to say what his breeding might be but if any of you have photos for me to look at that would be great.

KWPN by Bernstein (sp?)
Now 20yo so probably not typical of the more modern type

Now that looks possible!
The body is very similar but I'm having trouble with the head!!
The pony we saw today had it's mane and forelock hogged (YUK!!) which made it's head look massive and I can't imagine what it would look like once they are grown back - except better.
I read somewhere that the average height is 16.2 but this one is only 14.2 albeit very much full up. Is it unlikely to be a full warmblood but more likely a cross do you think?

He will be an NRP = Dutch riding pony. They have a separate registry to the KWPN. The foundation stock is largely Welsh D and New Forest pony with some small WB or TB blood thrown in, quite a few of them are pure-bred and then registered as NRPs.
KWPN (Dutch WB) have to be a minimum height for studbook registration - think it is 15.3hh for mares and 16hh for stallions as 3yo, not sure of the heights they require for animals registered at older than 3yo.
My coming 2yo filly is a KWPNer - she is already 15.1hh at 20 months old and looks to make around 16.3hh She's just on a year old in the first pic, second one about 19 months old

Not to hijack the thread, but hey Lgd: How tall was your (very lovely) girl at a year old? Our girl is coming up to five months and we're trying to get a sense of how big she'll be.

I don't have any exact measurements but would guess around 14hh - 14.1hh as a full yearling. She was wearing 5'0" (with bum hanging out a bit ) or 5'3" rugs at that point and she's in 5'9" now and starting to hang out of some of those.
A rough idea of adult height can be done once they are a full year. Measure from elbow to ergot with a piece of twine/string and then keep the elbow end in the same place and swing the string up over the withers. That gives approx adult height plus or minus an inch. Belle came up at 17hh - i.e. 16.3hh - 17.1hh. Her Mum comes up 16 - 16.2hh on the string test and measures 16hh, so I'm hoping Belle keeps to that and only makes 16.3hh.

We can't wait for Darby to hit 1 year so we can do the string test. Mom is 16hh and Dad is 17hh+ so we're she's got Dad's legs (she's already obviously got her mom's body).

Sam's a Dutch Warmblood X TB. He feels very 'wide' to ride, and you really feel you've got a lot of horse under you (I called him a carthorse the first time I rode him!). Build wise he's like a sturdy TB, warmbloods are lovely things big dopey horses most of the time unless they get a bee in thier bonnet about something!

Here's some little piccies of our 15.2hh dutch warmblood, came over from Holland last February (but didn't look like this - don't think the journey agreed with her). Big broad forehead flat as a pancake like someone bashed a frying pan against it, chunkyish legs with whopping solid joints but no feather, quite a solid big neck but daintyish head, upright feet, big strong shoulder - I know I'm making her sound like a freak but I think she's gorgeous really. She's quite nervous (don;t think she had a very nice life) but very willing with fab straight long paces and a lovely jump.

Bimbambo - don't know is that last photo I put on will be any use to you, just realised you will look at that and think she looks like a cross between a cob and an elephant, as the spring grass had certainly taken effect (fat cow!!)
