Just wondered if anyone had any secret tips for softening up leather boots - any cream/lotion/special method?
My long Just Togs boots are rock solid and I can't wear them for very long to bed them in! They fit, but the leather is really stiff...I can't bend my ankle in them properly to ride!
When i was at school and my new school shoes where rubbing, teacher said hold them over steam which softens them and put them on while still hot/soft to mould them to the shape of your feet....have a good walk around in them until they cool, ect...
Whether it will work or not I dont know, works with normal shoes but not sure if it will with long boots, be worth a try as all it will cost is the gas to boil a pan of water for a few minutes
Leave them overnight and then wipe of the excess. Then gently move the leather. I've done this every few days for a couple of weeks and have found the leather is then supple enough to wear in without taking the skin off your legs.
Ta for the replies....was really after something other than wearing them! As they are sooo painful at the moment!! I have tried...ridden in them, walked through mud, you name it, but all I ended up with is massive blisters and boots that are still rock hard but with a few extra creases in them!!!
Will try the steam....and I think I've got some effax so will have a go with that too!
just thought what my dad told me about football players wearing new boots in the bath to mould them to your feet and soften them up - would that ruin the leather?!?

No horse knocks on your door and says "Hey, can I come and live with you".
You chose them and it's your responsibility to do everything you can for them.
I love ko-cao-line leather dressing. My mum always used it and it does soften them. Use it for a month and it will sink in! Then clean your boots up and polish them a normal.
Don't know about long boots (never wore them) but we do something called hot socking with ice skates which are like hard, leather rocks when new. Put a pair of comfortable socks in the hottest water your feet can handle, wring out the water and wear them in your boots for an hour or so. You don't necessarily need to walk around, but the heat helps them mold to your feet better. Kind of like the steam trick.... good luck!
