Another endurance ride and Cheeky's first!

Hi there!!

I am really getting into this trail riding thing! Its seems like its just an excuse for going for a lovely ride in some beautiful country side!!
I did a 10km endurance ride on Cheeky today......he thought it was absolutely fantastic and enjoyed it immensely being able to just get out and relax in the country.

He probably didnt realise he was competing!! No dressage to learn, no jumping to worry about and a group of really friendly people and horses to ride with.

We set off with a group of eight and there were a couple of very green horses with us, Cheeky didnt like being stuck behind with this group, very conscious of the back legs waving towards him, he was a bit joggy and tossing his head when we were behind them.

Anyway, we managed to get to the front of them and he relaxed immediately, and enjoyed himself walking and trotting out nicely. We got quite far ahead of the greenies and another lady rode with us on her skewbald horse called Ben. Ben and Cheeky had a fantastic time trotting and cantering together and we had a chat about hunting, showing and eventing.

We arrived back within an hour and bit. His heart rate before leaving was 42, coming back in was 62 (he got a bit excited and joggy at the end) and 44 for resting rate half an hour after coming in. He trotted up fine before and after the ride.

We got another ribbon saying that we had qualified and I was chuffed!
He was a darling all day and I cant wait for the next one at Amberley on the 9 of November! We will do the 20km one and hopefully we will be a bit fitter and have lower heart rates..... if you are interested and you can do it, I recommend endurance and trail riding VERY FUN!!

You should definitely try it! Its so much fun and its so inexpensive!

Its great for the horses too as they have a nice outing. The only downside really is that the terrain can ne a bit varied and you need to go carefully, but apart from that its fantastic!

wow, cool, congrats on doing good! IT sounds like you had lots of fun. One of the horses I might look at to lease is an endurance horse. I've always wondered what it was like to ride on a really long trail ride(endurance ride) I've always thought that endurance is interesting. I've never tried it, mind you. But it seems like fun.

Hi Freedomstar!

Endurance is fun! I am not technically doing endurance, I am only averaging about 10km to 20km as I do other disciplines too, (dressage aaargh!! Canterbury Show coming up!!) and eventing and show jumping.

Some of the rides are pretty spread out around the place travel wise, but its worth it for the stunning rides you get to do!

My next ride is the 10th of November. Following that I have Canterbury show on the 13th, 14th and 15th of November....wow! busy week!
