I have just read a post on Fugoly horse about tenessee walking horses
I never realised that they were subjected to such cruelty

I didn't find out about this until a few months ago and was absolutely shocked by it all. Can't understand why people don't appreciate the horse's natural gaits as they are

hate it

sorry to thread hijack but at the next mini jumping can we do it off lead rein but with Daddy running with her?

She's been jumping 1 foot at home, and canters now off lead rein (change of pony has done her the world of good!)

we missed Wed's as he had a cold (pony - not her Daddy!!!!)

And OMG didn't the girls do GOOD at the PC comp's! You must be SO proud of them. I lent out our PC badge for one of your lasses - she never told me how well they did. I shall chastise her severely - they did amazing. So so pleased for them and you and your instructors. I am over the moon for you all.

I hate watching the gaited horse classes at shows. Nothing against the horses themselves--but I can't stand to watch them try to move with their legs tied together. They all seem totally stressed out too. It looks like animal abuse to me, but I think it's just so widely praticed that no one looks twice.

If you really want to see something that'll open your eyes go and have a look here, and read about their troubles when they challenged the accepted practice of stacking and soring!

People will do anything to get the perfect 'look' or 'performance e.g. bottle tops in boots for show jumpers and whips and chains for spanish horses.

I think if you have to use these methods you are not a good horse person and as so well said previously, WHY CAN'T THEY JUST ACCEPT THE HORSES THE WAY THEY ARE!

This video says it all for me It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up ( and Frances, if I see that cartoon appear there will be trouble!!!)

http://www.walkinonranch.com/2007WGC.html

He does not have stacked boots, he doesn't have a nicked tail, it's a false one, so it looks like his tail is nicked. He is the only horse who actually , to my way of thinking is stunningly beutiful and happy in his work.

(and on a side note, thanks Chris - she is determined to do have a go off lead rein - and I am so proud of your girls! You must be too. Just in case you are all wondering how I know Chris, Chris runs a local RS and her girls are just fantastic bunch of teenagers - they are lovely lovely bunch. One of them lives at the back of my parents and her family and mine are good friends, some of the girls' Dads and mine play golf together so we know them quite well!. Some of the girls therefore ride our ponies for us as our 6 year old can't keep them as fit as they need! And they help her by leading her at the jumping. So we lend them pony club badges, ties, jackets, hats etc as they loose them ALL the time and just support them as much as we can. They are a credit to Chris and their parents.)

i can' believe people on youtube are defending this kind of practice and saying its natural - if its so natural then why do the poor horses keep falling over?
