Just a couple more 'coloquial' horsey things.... If you wen't horsey, you wouldn't get them....!

'My horse is fussy in the gob'

'Scarey crisp packet monsters' (or carrier bag monsters!)

'Just going up the yard to do the horse' (Non-horsey friends always say ' what yard to do WHAT to the horse?!)

And I'm learning a lot - please make sure you include definitions, I have been wondering about a lot of these. Some of your "vernacular" is very - ah - different than ours!

Glad you started this!

Lame - My OH gave me a stinking look when I said Lilly was lame. I had to explain that it was because she was limping slighty not that I thought she was c**p

Bombproofing- Get funny looks for this

Otherwise
Dead to the leg
Spook
Shy
hollow
Working in an outline

Stacked it - Fell off

Tanked with - horse going at speed where it likes

Tanking - see above..

Gobby - Horse is unhappy in his mouth i.e "He's a bit gobby with that bit"

Hollow - horse with head in the air creating a hollow in his mid-section (rather than horse is hollow in manner of easter egg!)

PonyClubKick - to flap in a slightly undignified way with legs a la small child on fat lazy pony

Eons ago I worked briefly in a racing yard where the term "to let a horse down" meant to untie, take off headcollar and let loose in the box. I use it all the time in front of my daughter ("you can let him down now") and she has no idea what I mean!

Oooh just remembered another from my racing days: "to run up light" - lose a lot of weight/condition quickly, usually from excess of work. Similar but not quite the same as "tucked up".

Hit the deck. But that's used in lots of areas, not specifically horses.

Also saw someone else on here use the term 'hack and yak', for a ride and a chat, which I thought was fab.

Hoolying - running around the field like plonkers!
Chop - used to be slang on our old yard for a bucket of hard feed!
Pootling - just meandering aimlessly around the field or around the block for a hack
Wind up their arse - basically being idiots cos the wind is blowing and their senses are affected.
Sharp - just generally being more aware of their surroundings etc
