So I had my first jumping lesson lesson today....

so i went up to the RS, got a bit lost on the way, never been there before and the tom tom was stuggling as its so tucked away.
i was given a horse called Dancer, he was a bay hunter type and i was told he was about 16-16.1hh although he felt smaller than that, i ride a 16.2, that 2inches must make a lot off difference because i thought he was only about 15.3

i was allowed to ride him around to warm him up a bit as if he was my own horse and do what i wanted which was really good. i got to control him and get him working while the instructor sat outside of the school. then the instructor asked what he felt like to ride and i said his trot strides felt quite short and his canter strides were short at first but then lengthened out and he said i was right i think this means i am actually starting to know what i am doing

we started with some trotting poles, well we went over them twice on each rein. then he put up a crosspole with a trot pole in front of it. went over a couple of times and he asked me to canter as soon as we landed to see just how good the trot was. it didnt happen as soon as we landed so out came the lunge whip. the next time round Dancer cantered just before we took off so the instructor decided to move the pole on the ground to set us up for canter.

up went the cross pole, a bit higher then i would have liked but i dont know what i can do untill i do it. we jumped a couple of times fine then but at some point he would try and slow to trot as we went over the ground pole. the last time i didnt use enough leg, he went into trot, got the strides all muddled up beacause it was set to 2 canter strides. took a big leap, landed and guess what..... yep i came flying down to earth with a bang

the horse stopped dead and looked at me as i sat on the floor trying to get my breath back while my RI was shouting loads of questions at me like whats your name, how old are you, where do you live. all i could manage was to wave my hand around untill i finally got my breath back.

but i got back on and did the jump again and made sure i had pleanty of leg before we got to the pole, lol.

so i need to work on sitting up quicker after the jump and staying closer to the horse when we do jump.

cookies if you read all of that

I have to say well done for getting back on!! Being winded is a horrible feeling, you feel like you'll never be able to breath again.

after i done the first BIG jump, well it was about 2'6 i felt a huge wave of WOW run through me. it was so amazing

i hate being winded, its pretty scary at the time but this time was much better than the last time i got winded after being thrown from my horse when she reared and then tanked off, i was trying to run after her before i realised i couldnt breath. this time i just got to sit there.

im glad its been raining alot though because the gound was nice and soft and it was a pretty slow fall, as in i was clinging to the neck before sliding to the ground.lol

I am joining the group jumping lessons on a tuesday night and i cant wait to get started

It's great when you first jump a big jump isn't it, specially if you were worried before hand. I hate being winded to, i remember when i fell off Nimby i did a somersault over his head onto my back (thankfully wearing a BP as it cushioned the fall!) and ended up winded. Trouble is i was sat there tears running down my face and laughing and being winded at the same time was horrible!

That was jumping to i think, being winded is horrible!

Well done for getting back on board and doing it though!

Sounds as though you had a good lesson Tally. Shame about the fall - hope you are not too sore tomorrow. It's a good feeling when you manage to get back on and do the jump next time isn't it?

Hope the group lessons go well.

my bum feels bruised at the moment

when i got back on i was half tempted to ask the RI to put the jump down a bit but im glad i didnt, i figured if i had already done it half a dozen times i could do it again.

i was wearing my BP as well, glad i did
