clipping & showing

I am planning on entering a very early hunter class (beginning of March). My horse has had a trace clip & I am reluctant to clip him out this late as I don't want to spoil his summer coat. to see some horses to have the remnants of a winter clip - or will they expect something much more polished?? The show is quite a big local show, often with professional producers with county standard young horses & county standard judges.

at early shows it really won't be much of a problem. as long as it's clear you've done your best and made a decent effort, then it doesn't matter about having clip lines. you can help the summer coat come through by leaving the rug on for longer than you would normally, to keep the horse warm and encourage the coat change. feeding oil also helps, and gives a nice shine so the winter coat doesn't look so scruffy!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I clipped my boy early this month and have a show on March 8th. Which show is it you are going to?
