So it was only about 400 metres in total but I rode Victor on the road for the first time yesterday!
Readers of previous threads/contributions will know that I have had Vic for four months now and haven't yet managed to pluck up the courage to go out on the road with him. It just seemed so scary!
I led him 200 metres down the road on Sunday and he was very well behaved but a bit joggy on the way back. Yesterday, I decided to ride in the school then to the same point we went on Sunday. He was fantastic in the school, brilliant movement and work ethic, so off we went down the drive to the road. It's more of a lane than a road but can be quite busy so I was being cautious. He was impeccably behaved on the way down.... on the way back, he trotted a bit, so I bought him back to walk, a car went past, he didn't bat an eyelid, then he decided "enough's enough, I'm cantering home!" and he did

I managed to stop him just before knocking the postman down - who was actually quite amused by the whole thing

We walked back on to the drive to the quiet of the yard...when he decided he wasn't happy and semi-reared a few times
But, I'm not going to be put off - I think he'd enjoyed himself so much he didn't want to go back into his stable/field. I will take him out in company next time to see how he is with something else. Just hope we make it back...
