Woolworth's Horses

Not sure where to post this question ...

Did Woolworth's stores in the UK ever have mechanical horses for children to ride? Some here in the US did--your parent put a dime in the slot and you got a short ride. The horses were often palominos with real leather western saddles and bridles.

I was just wondering if the UK Woolworth's and similar stores had those horses and, if so, whether the tack was western or English style.

This one's not a palomino, but otherwise he's the kind of horse I remember:

I fell off one once :shame:

But even worse, it was this year! I also got stuck in a postman pat van this year also.

I used to beg and beg and beg my mum to be let on the Magic Roundabout one in the shopping centre, but I had to behave the WHOLE trip..if I so much as thought as running away or being naughty there wasno magic roundabout for me!

I don't remember them being specific to Woolies, but we had one in our market hall at one point. Don't ever remember having a go on it - used to sit and look hopefull! come to think of it, never saw it get used much at all.......lol, would love to get one (bet they're collectors items now) and keep it at home, probably be quite soothing going for a canter of an evening in the lounge.............

Shut up! It was dark and I thought it would be fun It wasn't. I felt mildly sick and Postman Pat kept making patronising comments!

There was a very VERY angry toddler shouting at me that it was his turn now and mum said he had to share so why didn't I have to?! (Complete with screaming, snotty nose and kicking the side of the van!)

Sooo not worth the quid I paid!

I don't have a conscious memory of them but am reliably informed by my mum that I have to have a ride on the 'geegee at woolworths' every time we went shopping! I'm sure that's where my horse obsession began!

I remember them too! I cannot remember the tack exactly but I have a feeling it was Western. There was my mum blaming the little metal tri-ang rocking horse I had as a baby for my obsession. It was Woolies all along
