Barefoot Cheyenne...Sorry more treeless questions!

I've ridden treeless for 4 years and can't imagine going back. BUT last year I bought a Barefoot Cheyenne and I'm just not convienced about it. I find it lovely to ride in and can jump which I couldn't in my old treeless (a Randols I got from Ebay Germany) but I've struggled with the fitting, it's been rubbing on his back (which I think I've sorted thanks to a NR member ) and it falls tight sometimes on his withers. He seems okay in it but isn't the sort to make a fuss and there's just something I'm not happy about with it. I'm not sure if this is me but I also find in fast canter I can't stand up??

The place I bought it from have been less than helpful so I'm considering changing again. So basically I'm on a budget (arn't we all) but obviously I should be able to sell the Cheyenne for a couple of hundred I hope so would be thinking of buying something around £400 mark. I'm a heavy rider so I've been turned off the Libra saddles as they say they aren't suitable for over 11 stone?

Have you tried changing the pommel to a one a bit smaller? it may be that the pommel is to wide and so sitting low on the withers.

The standing up in canter could just be the stirrup bars being set further back.

A saddle with panels would be better if you are a heavier rider

Yeah got a smaller pommel and it was WAY too narrow. Tried packing it myself and it didn't work either. Do any treeless have panels? Sorry being thick but I was so lucky with my first one and I'm totally annoyed with myself for selling before I'd made double sure this one was okay!

hackabout, trekkers, startrekks, fhoenix - all those have panels.

What about adding a couple of shims into the front of the pad to lift it up slightly?

Thanks. I've looked at couple of trekkers and quiet liked them.

Will try the shims tonight, I took out the one's you sent with the pad so I don't mind cutting into them .

I have had all sorts of problems trying to get myself and my horse 100% happy with treeless and found like you problems with rubbing at the back and tight on the withers etc. etc.

I have a suber pad and find that seems to resolve most things (altho Im not that keen on it) and lets me know that it is fixable, my padding just needs to simulate that of the suber. Perhaps you could get your hands on one to try under your barefoot before you give up.

I have just bought a requisite roamer saddle and it seems to have answered most of my problems (combined with the suber so I am still working on a pad that will do the same but I like).

Hope you manage to find something you are both happy with.

Now that's interesting cos my friend suggested ringing Suber to see what they advise. What is it you don't like? I'm happy to spend the money on getting one if it means I keep the saddle because I do like alot of things about it.

One of my friend's had a suber pad for her hm fhoenix saddle, it seemed quite good, her horse has quite high withers and didnt seem to rub him, and he seemed comfortable in it. if you've not seen one already its cork thats inside them, sort of feels like a harder version of a bean bag to me You're supposed to wash it either the first time you use it oir everytime(cant remember which) and put it on damp so it moulds to your horse's shape

I found this model to sit heavy on the front of lift off ponies back. If you put saddle on something it tips forwards.
Sold mine as front caused issues no matter what i did with it.
I'd be interested in what cherokee is like.

Have to say.. I did not like the Barefoots.Just did not work for Dyfra and I.
Though the design is close.. the Treefree is much better made and it is less likely you will have issues with the pommel, like the Barefoot has.
Treefree will also custom make a pommel for you, so it will fit your horse perfectly.
Barefoot won't when I asked and none of their pommels worked with Dyfra.
Treefree will also move the billet straps or stirrup hanger to where you want it...they don't mind doing custom things for you.

For moveable panels.. StarTrekk makes a very good quality saddle and for horses with withers.. it is the best Treeless bar none. You won't have to worry about the pommel getting too close or sitting on withers with this one.

My Favorite is the Hybrid Sensation saddle but sadly.. it is not recommended for horses that have high withers.
