What a fab day

Hi all, i dont post much on here so most of you wont have a clue who i am / my history so will give you a brief intro.

Last spring for some unknown reason i had a complete crash of confidence. Couldnt get on Oscar and ride without having a total panic attack. After not making progress myself and being unable to understand why it happened ihad some hypnotherapy. I was just beginning to get some confidence and was almost able to ride round without someone walking alongside me when i fell pregnant. Obviously due to my nerves, riding wasnt an option whilst pregnant, i personally didnt wanna risk anything going wrong.

Anyway yesterday, after an emergency caesarian 8 weeks ago i felt the sudden urge to ride. Not felt that 'need' for so long. With the baby at her grandparents i went to the yard with my friend, groomed, and tacked up. After a bit of faffing around, up i got!! I managed to ride around totally alone for approx 15 mins. Only walk, few short trots and rein changes but it felt so good. I'm still on a high today. I can still ride!! hurrah!! Feeling a bit sore today tho!! Poor unfit body! Just needed to share with ppl who understand!

Well done those of you who managed to get all the way through!! Happy happy days!! hurrah for wonderful Oscar horse who was so calm and patient!!

Well done! Can I ask whether the hypnotherapy worked? I have been thinking about it myself recently due to lost confidence.

Fleet, it did make a difference immediately. I cant honestly say it solved my issues totally but once the start had been made it all became much easier. From what i remember she retrained my thought process, kind of gave me a coping mechanism, something to concentrate on when got scared. Basically to push thumb and forefinger together and somehow it worked!! my brain associates that with feeling relaxed and safe. I dont even need to use it now.
Just make sure you ring round and explain the problem, you will know when you find the right person. Good luck hon, it will get better. The fact that you are considering hypnotherapy shows how much you want to ride again. Also be gentle with yourself. Dont force riding if it doesn't feel right. Take time on the ground reinforcing your bond with your neddy and it'll come right. xxx

I have now given hypnotherapy a go but not sure whether it is working yet for me much as I want it to. I was asked to visualise how I felt when feeling scared but found it really difficult to summon up the fear when sitting in a cosy chair miles from a horse! That was just my first session so I'll persevere and see if it makes a difference.I do feel under a certain amount of pressure to ride this particular horse and it is maybe that he simply isn't right for me as I'm much better when riding another horse in my lessons.
