Jumping Today *VIDS*

Not going to ramble on as its too late

Went jumping again today, and they were back out on grass

If i'd known, id probably have done the 70cm and the 75cm..but i'd already entered so was stuck with 75cm and 80cm

Started warming up and he was being a right pain in the neck. Leaning, pulling, trying to bolt, bouncing up and down on the spot etc.

Managed to get over a few practise jumps, and then jumped off to walk course. Got back on and he was much better!

Took him in and went clear

Went into the jump off, 4 faults - one down - but that was my fault for not
riding forward enough.

It was a long wait whilst they sorted out the next course, and it was quite warm.

He was so tired by the time i took him back into warm up for the 80cm - he was shattered bless him.

Had a chat with YO/RI who was also competing and we took the attitude of we'd paid for it might as well go in and see how we get on, in case he perked up a bit

Had the 2nd fence down as it was jumping from light into dark, and he was tired and it just didnt go to plan. Also had a run out at the last jump, as i left it too him way too much and he just couldnt do it on his own

Class 1 Round 1

Class 1 Jump Off

The 3rd video isnt working atm, will try and get it sorted and uploaded :/

And also - i want to have a word with whoever thought it wasa a good idea to put a pond in the middle of the arena!!!

Feel free to critique - How is our canter looking (we've been working on getting it bouncier, but it all seems to have gone to pot as he was so strong

Well done. I think you did really well.
Your such a good jumper.
And I see what you mean about putting a pond in the middle of the show jumping ring. Health and safety.

Not a critique as such more an observation- you look like you're shifting around quite a lot in the saddle, in all three gaits- are your stirrups a little long?

Also, I'm not being mean but why would he be tired after one round of jumps? If he's unfit maybe he shouldn't be doing 2 rounds in the first place?

Again, no offence meant

yes they're a bit long - they've stretched and never got round to putting more holes in

And he's not unfit at all, but shows are very exciting for him - especially jumping and he gets very excited by the atmosphere - you can almost smell the adrenalin running through him! It was very busy and so was a long day and very hot, what with the heat and being excited and standing around from when we'd done our first class at 12, and our 2nd class at 3.45 (drawn order ) he was a tired. He's more than capable fitness wise - can go off galloping across the fields for hours and easily do an hours hard work without breaking much of a sweat, but he gets emotionally/mentally tired - a bit like a little kid on an exciting day out - bless him

Well done both of you. Your doing much better than me at the moment. LOL

I am soooo jealous of your lower leg, despite you saying you stirrups were a little long, you still manage to keep it nice and still. Mine tend to flap around more than washing in the wind.
The only small critique is you could do with giving a little more with your hands, although I do get the impression that he is quite strong and you are trying to hold him back a little.

Your Canter at the beggining of each round looked nice and bouncy, but you can tell as your boy gets more excited, his canter gets flatter. LOL.
He should calm down though the more you take him out.

Keep up the great work, he's got a lovely jump on him and you are a great jockey

You guys are looking good!

tbh he doesnt really appear to be strong in the sense that he,s taking a hold, from what i can see you hands seem quite fixed nearly all the time, which in canter may seem like when he stretchs his neck for the next stride that hes being "strong" but you may be blocking his movement by not allowing your hands to go with him, this can also be unbalancing you in the saddle by almost pulling you forward (this can be mistaken for the horse being strong)! iv had the same problem with my horse and i thought i saw a similar issue with you...im just going on the vid? Maybe if you watch the vid a few times with this in mind, you might see what i mean??

you also need to give more with your hands over a fence dont drop the contact just let your hands go forward allow murph to stretch more!

One last thing stop putting yourself down! on your youtube you say excuse your riding?!! why? you rode great and had a smooth pleasant round which you worked hard for take the credit woman!!
