Another stirrup question ... sorry!

Can I put cages as shown on my other post, on flexi stirrups? How much 'give' is in the cages....would they move with the stirrups?

Thanks

There's not much give in flexi stirrups, but not sure the cages would move well, they would probably hit the top of the stirrup

I think it depends on what you want, if you want to cushion the blow to your knees/ankles, then you will need cushy large tread stirrups, if you just want to stop your foot slipping through then just get cages and put them on normal stirrups.

Another throught, when riding in 'normal' stirrups I find the stirrup leather twisting can make my ankle hurt as i am pulling against it, I have a few pairs of icelandic top stirrups that keep the leathers lying flat and don't hurt as much, don't know about other stirrups but the pair of icelandic ones I have/are selling (they are slightly different) would fit the cages on as well, might be worth a look?

These are Icelandic stirrups if you don't know what they are

Thanks for all your help, no_angel. I think i'm going to need to sit on him and work out exactly what is making it hurt, and then pick the right option....its all so confusing
When i think about it, it may be fighting with a twisting stirrup leather that does it. But i'll need to have an assessment of my legs position

These are the soft tread stirrups with cages. My friend has them and she loves them. I used the same ones but without cages. I don't think you could fix cages onto the metal flexi stirrups but i may be wrong.

The stirrups from performance Equestrian are great - I have many pairs of the caged ones We sell a very similar stirrup with our saddles - but they are metal & yes - cages can be fitted to them - fiddly but it can be done
