I was in a local show yesterday, and although I won I was in a class with the stallion, who was upsetting the other horses, including my gelding who is normally a total sweetheart.

Just wondered what rules normally apply as my friend was very suprised it was a mixed class.

TBH its still a horse, balls or not.

as long as it was bitted, and handled by someone over 16 i think it is, may be 14 will check for you

okay rules from bsps (specifically m&m's)
Quote:
316. Stallions are permitted in Heritage Ridden and WHP classes.

317. Riders must be 12 years old or over on 1st. January in the current year to ride any
Stallions not exceeding 138cms., or Small Breed Mountain & Moorland Stallions
i.e. Dartmoor, Exmoor, Shetland, Welsh Section A & B.

318. Riders must be 14 years old or over on 1st. January in the current year to ride any
Stallions ex. 138cms. or Large Breed Mountain and Moorland Stallions
i.e. Connemara, Dales, Fells, Highland, New Forest, Welsh Section C & D.
im looking for NPS and other society handbooks

NPS
Quote:
Colts may be licensed from 1st January of their 2 year old year and all colts presented for stallion premiums must be licensed. Progeny of unlicensed colts or stallions are not eligible for registration.
In the interest of safety all stallions and colts, two years old or over must be suitably bitted and led by a handler that has attained their 14th birthday before January 1st of the current year.
14 again

not sure for hunter types its not as clear

for BSHA
Quote:
Age of Rider
No rider under the age of fifteen years of age is eligible to compete in classes affiliated to the Association.
Proof of age may be required.
so thats for hacks, cobs and riding horses.

still no rules on hunters...

Yes, unless the schedule states no stallions.

ive done local ridden with my stallion, though i know the ips(bps equiv) don't allow stallions to be ridden unless they are in a breed class, but our local nps do. we had our stallion in a mixed class he was so well behaved the judge never realised he was still entire til i told him. i take him jumping regualry and he loves it he stands in the middle of the horses and observes everything going on.

I used to take my little stallion to local shows and it took ages before they cottoned on he was a stallion!

It is a sad thing that some stallions have coloured the opinions so strongly of some show committees that they no longer allow stallions.

I took my friends 4-y-o Drum horse stallion to our local show last month and he was no problem at all.

My local show simply states that the horse must be handled by a competent person and must be shown bitted.

I would just say that you need to give yourself plenty of time before your class to allow them to adjust to being at a show and the surroundings etc, as our boy had never seen anything like it and was rather wound up on arrival!

However, he settled down and as long as I kept him at a decent distance from the other horses he wasn't too upset with anything Bless him

I would say check your local RC rule book or ask

LOL, I used to take our boys on endurance rides. Dad was very laid back and would not mind other horses getting close. But son was a bit younger and a bit more "enthusiastic" about meeting new horses.

At the time there were some rather ambitious "ladies" who, to get their check point cards signed would barge through if there was a few of you waiting to get your card stamped.

One day these "ladies" thought they'd barge the young stallion out of the way...They thought the hounds of hell and the wrath of god was about to dedcend upon them.
They had no idea they were stallions, as they were such gentlemen......but two mares barging into the back of them got a response that was priceless....the look on their little faces. Luckily the boys just bellowed!
