HELP!!! My dog is having puppies!

OMG!! What a weekend, now I feel like a total turnip!

Not sure how its happened, it was definitely a sneeky one but my bitch did get pregnant, its not phantom and its not big titties

I feel bloody awful as she is only a puppy herself but she has 2 little girls at the minute and they are both feeding, we think another one is on the way! She keeps trying to go back outside, which is where she had the first 2.

Brother woke me up saying we had one live and one dead... picked the live one up to get it warm and left it with Gina, goes back outside and the dead one is crying and wriggling about!!!

OMG!! I so dont know what to do! Help me

dont worry, she'll sort herself out. Just keep an eye but dont interfere. if any look to still, rub them vigouresly with a towel to stilmulate breathing then return to here asap. Let her be quiet with no body around in a quiet area of the house. she wont want to be near anybody while she's so vulnerable (hence trying to go outside)

when the pups are weaned, may i suggest you nueter her? we had a cat that did this to us so i know how you feel. Delighted you have pups but worried and anxious you have pups from a young animal that may add to a big problem. we got her neutered straight away and it helped her mature a lot afterwards.

Good luck with your new arrivals!

Mum is only 10months old

We have 3 puppies so far I think that is our lot (hopefully!) Mum is a border collie, she has cleaned all the pups up and is lay quiet and they are all feeding.

I am actually disgusted in myself I slag people off for doing this and its turned around and bitten me in the arse!! Unfortunately the puppies look very pure bred and the only other collie round here is our dog

Grr what a let down I am, so much bad luck recently

Oh dear, not good Definately get her spayed after.

Border Collies are easy whelpers generally so its best to leave her to it and keep an eye on her.

There is nothing you can do about it now so dont beat yourself up, accidents can happen when there are two unneutered dogs around, hopefully this thread will remind people of that.

Have you got a whelping box sorted where Gina can feed the pups? If not you may want to sort that out so she has her own little space somewhere quiet. Make sure all pups are feeding well for the first few hours as that is the most important.

You say the dad is probably your dog... Is he related to mum at all? If they are closely related you will not be able to register any of the pups (i think brother/sister, father/daughter sort of breedings wont be registered now), so just something to bear in mind. Once all of the pups have got through the first week start looking for some good homes for them as you dont want to be left with all the pups at 8 weeks...!!

I have a litter of pug puppies at the moment! They are a joy to raise, but very time consuming and hard work! Someone will need to be at home with mum and pups for the first couple of weeks at least. Its so easy to lose them when they're little, we lost a labrador pup cos the mum led on it, only for a few seconds but it was enough to kill it

Hope everyone is doing ok. How many babies in total?

Feel free to PM me if you need to ask anything, i've whelped and raised a few litters so although im not an expert, i may be able to help!

oops. did they not get seperated then?

hope all is well with pups. a litter this young may take its toll so make sure you take pups and mum to a vet asap for a good check over.

i have nothuing against breeding btw i have been a breeder for a number of years but please have her seen to once she is fit enough, a friend of a friend had a litter planned and as soon as pups were gone they had an unexpectedly early season and she has been caught again(despite a jag at vets to stop the season) xx

They was seperated and we was careful but obviously not carefully enough the crafty tart!

Mum and all 4 puppies are currently doing brilliant! She has now been brave enough to leave the litter and had some food and nipped out for a wee, puppies are feeding, pooing and nice and warm and toasty!

Poor dog thinks he has done something wrong as he is banned from the kitchen while Gina and pups are in there and he is sulking terribly! He is off to the vets next week (hopefully) to be snipped!!

Then Gina is going to be done when puppies are older and she has recovered

Don't be too hard on yourself, at least you're not one of the idiots who don't care if their dogs breeds.
when you rehome the pups it'd be a good idea to draw up a neutering contract i.e. the person who adopts them agrees to have them neutered at say 6 months old, to stop them adding to the population themselves.

Hopefully the puppies will be going to local homes that we know well, contracts will be written up to make sure I know where they are and how they are doing

try to make the contract for neutering at a year (for male) or after 1st season (for female) because this will mean they will be mature physically and mentally. early neutering can cause problems.

Yes I am fully aware of that.... but later neutering results in 4 balls of fluff!

Just my luck I guess

Hope mum and babies are all ok, even if the parents are not closely related you wont be able to register them because the mum is under 1 yr old. I hope that you find good homes for the hup pups......pics would be nice.

It seems so Heavens knows why!

All are ok... just moved mum and babies into their permanent room, she wasn't keen on moving earlier but she was moving around more and was happy for them to be moved Currently having some well deserved quite time, I think Gina feels more secure in her new room as she has 3 solid walls (its a pointless passage type thing, ideal dog room )

I am soo not going to get any sleep tonight! They keep crying and I can't help but stick my head round the corner to make sure non have been squashed
