Ridden vetran class help
i have decided that i am going to enter my mac into the ridden vetran at a local show, however you are not allowed the spurs in the class and my mac is dead to the leg from a previous owner always riding in spurs so what can i do to help with this? he works lovely and i was thinking of warming up with my schooling whip so that he listens to me and then just carry my cane in the class as if he thinks i have the schooling whip still he will continue working
does anyone else have this issue? or an ideas

We do the schooling whips and then swapping for a cane trick on our little cob. It works quite well most of the time

i will try it, i have found out i can wear spurs as i am entering as a non vhs member and if i was placed i would not be able to go on to championships which i do not care about as only going for the fun.

No, you can't wear spurs regardless of whether you are a member or not if it is a VHS class it will be run under VHS rules. Being a member just dictates whether you go through to the regionals or not...

But if the if the veteran class is being done for the VHS (a qualifier) - ie under their rules - then spurs are not acceptable in a VHS associated class. Check the rulebook - there are a lot of things not acceptable which would be fine in normal classes, as well as a lot of things that are acceptable which wouldn't normally be! (ie scars and blemishes)

In that case enter as HC.
Even if you are not a member, if you get placed you can still qualify as you have 14days (?) to register with the VHS. These qualifiers are getting very hotly contested as they increase in popularity so is making qualifying harder - which is a good thing but how would you feel if you missed out on a qualification for regionals (of which are are only a few to go to left in the season) to someone that isn't following the rules?

it states that the oldest horse in the class would qualify anyhow so since my horse only just quailfies as a vetren at the age of 15 i dont think i will be the oldest, it also states if i cant produce my registration in the class i cant qualify either
if i rode without my spurs and was placed can i not hand down my qualifying place down to the next person? i friend qualified the other day put doesnt want to go to finals

Are you sure it's a VHS class? The oldest horse qualifying thing is ridiculous - and the VHS classes are split so your horse would only just count, as a Pre-Veteran.

It's not just the qualifying that counts though, if I was beaten by someone that is blatantly not following the rules then that's not very sportsmanlike is it?!

It could be that as it also seems to be a qualifier for Royal London, it could be something to do with that as to why the classes have been combined...
But back on topic - In the rules for the class it also says quite clearly in the schedule:
Quote:
VHS Qualifier Class Rules: Sponsored by Dodson & Horrell
No foals, spurs, galloping or wearing of ear-rings permitted.
|
You can have a cane/crop up to a certain length as well, will try to find out what as this might help you too..
Alternatively, why not do Ridden Hunter? Still the same format (apart from the gallop bit) and you can wear spurs

thats an idea about the ridden hunter i would just need to cross my fingers we would have no bucking in gallop lol
i am going to try warming up with a schooling whip and then swap to the cane for the class hoping he thinks its still the schooling whip

It doesn't mean that the oldest will qualify.
It means that the highest place in each age group will.
One from 15-19 one from 20-25 and one from 25plus.
So for example if I took my 33 year old and he came 10th but was the highest placed 25 plus he would qualify.
