Puppies
Would you, or would you not breed puppies. This is the bitch
She is very cute, totally loving and affectionate and a real monkey to boot.
I have to decide in June whether to have one litter when she next comes in season or have her spayed. One the one hand I would like to see more like her, she is pretty and well proportioned and has an excellent temperament and loads of fun, on the other I am worried, there are to many homeless dogs in the world as it is.

Unregistered "Jack Russell" type?
Save yourself the bother and spey her unless you have queues of people waiting to buy one.
No proof you need to wail till first season and most are getting done much earlier now.

I'm sorry but I say spey on this occasion. JRTs are not a recognised KC breed anyway, and you won't get a lot of money back after all the effort.
If it wasn't too much money, I would have had a litter from my show bred golden retriever who has fantastic temperament, and I'm sure she would have had good hip scores, but its a lot of money just to get the hips and the eyes tested before you even consider which stud dog you choose.

Absolutely not.
I don't mean any offence to your dog when I say we have much nicer, 'prettier', nicer markings, nicer colourings, lovely temperaments, coming in every week, and going straight to the pound.
Why don't you check your local animal shelter and just see how many cute little jackers they have looking for homes already. Cute is also a matter of opinion.
This little 6month old guy is in mine... along with many others... and BTW... they are all these, mostly white types, with only colour on the head... which people in general seem to find less desirable.
Again, I don't mean any offence, but say personally... I don't like your dog (in the sense that I've seen hundreds that I prefer, prettier, cuter... whatever you want to say)
I love jackers, prefer standing ears, more colour on body, symmetrical markings. I don't like the eye on the white side etc
Thats just my personal preference.
You love her because she is yours, doesn't mean she is someone else cup of tea.
I think my cat is the best cat on the world. I really do. There is absolutely no way I would breed from him (and he's neutered, because I love him to death, and his health is my top priority)
And the last reason? If I was looking for a JRT puppy... I purposely would avoid buying from anyone who bred their dog by choice/for profit.
Ask yourself. What type of owner is going to buy your pups? Someone who couldn't rescue/adopt a dog or didn't want to. Of course not everyone who buys a puppy is a 'bad owner'. But there are a lot of 'Wanted a puppy, want a puppy now' types. You have no idea, no matter what people tell you, whats going to happen to those pups when they leave your care.

Yes you are right. I would worry about them alot I think. I would have to put them on a sale and return if anything went wrong, lifetime, which would be a lot of responsibility. I guess its the spay then. It is a shame, she is such a lovely dog and more like her would be a joy to me, but I know I have to be responsible

Good decision I think. I agree with the others. There are anough mediocre dogs being bred from ( no offence, your dog looks lovley. I own a part bred scruff of a terrier myself whom I love to bits and would love 10 of but would not have bred from him in a million years!)
I think a dog would have to be an exceptional specimen of its breed, proven in the ring or working before I would consider breeding from it.

BTW I wouldn't have gone for a half white face either. The others in litter were all well marked but she was the only bitch, which is what I wanted because I prefer bitches. No way was I thinking of breeding for profit or even breeding at all. All Jacks are cute, mine included. There are lots of nice owners out there too and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I now love my girls white side more than the other, which is equally beautiful. You would have to know her personality, that is her winning feature. Personally I think mine is the best!

She is lucky to have you to love her, Tina, and to make good choices for her.

Ok she is not show stock or anything like registered Parsons. I wouldn't go there anyway, what a load of twaddle. I have had many dogs in my life pedigree and otherwise it counts for nothing except a rosette and a cup and a load of mad hatters running round a ring. She is nicely put together and has a perfect temperament. She has no defects or ailments I don't think my family would let me breed anyway and i have lots of doubts as previously said.

The general consensus seems to be, get her spayed. Ok enough said. Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I had another Jack cross once, she was amazing and lived till 17Plus years. we had her spayed at 18 months. She was so lovely, I wish I could have carried on the line, especially when I had her pts. It was totally heartbreaking that she had not left any legacy, a son, a daughter. I never got over it to this day 15 years on, she was so special.
Meg is special 2 in a different way as was my golden before her after JRx. He was pedigree, nice dog, very lovely thing, but when he died I had now regrets. Typical pedigree golden you see every day of the week, but of course he was 'special' because he was ours. Meg is 'different' like my old Jack she may not look much to you show folkes but she has a personality all of her own, totally different from my old one, that's what makes them 'special' I want to carry this one on, even if I have to keep whole litter. I doubt it, I have plenty of friends and associates who could provide more than good homes. We are not poor, or likely to let our pets, horses down, like some people who bugger off at the slightest toss. I feel sorry for them resque dogs, silly people buy and haven't got a clue. My world is not like that. I have the money, I can back things up, I do love my dog and my horses and would see none of them without. You know why? because I have a backbone and strong shoulders.

All of my animals are rescues and second hand that nobody wanted. I'm sick to the back teeth of more animals being bred when there are so many others needing homes.

I have had a think, how negative of you. Your little pup is lovely, but really, sticky up ears and bow legs. I would certainly not breed unless personality was outstanding. Which for all I know it might be, so why judge about pedigree/non pedigree. Jack Russells are not pedigrees, they are types, like cobs. OK there is now the Parson JR lovely, but I wouldn't want just them in the world of JR's

Oh goodness I better run down to my local shelter and grab a few. I have no intention of irresponsible breeding. I looked high and low for my girl. Didn't pay much, she came from a friend, but it was hard to find the 'type' I was after....I got it

No selling and forgetting for me. I have three mares that I could easily breed from. I wouldn't consider it except just maybe with one of my 'special' mares. Oh hell I have three 'special' mares and they will most probably out live me so I just can't go there.

What a stunning little Jack. You don't need to rush into anything choice wise I can see why you want to breed. My Aunty couldn't part with any off hers and ended up with 5 but they where all loved.
