Tack Colour
I'm getting a saddle to trial and as they haven't got one the right size in stock they are going to have to get it made. With this in mind they've asked me what colour I want as if I like it I can buy it as it will be brand new. My first thought was black but then I suddenly thought can you show in black tack or would I be better going for brown?

I prefer brown but will settle for anything that fits, I spent six months with a brown bridle and a black saddle!

I was just having a panic as I prefer black for everyday ridng but I don't want to get a black saddle and then find I get penalised at shows for not having a brown saddle/bridle and with the cost of the saddle it's not like I can get one of each colour (unless I got a fairly cheap brown treed one just for showing)
Can you tell I'm new to showing and a bit neurotic about getting it right lol

If you are going to show get brown.
Not sure why it has to be brown for showing. Anyone know?
I only have black but don't show but only because the saddle came up at a bargain price.
If I was getting MTM I'd probably have to go brown and get KV to make me another bridle.

I'd be interested to know why it has to be brown for showing too.
Personally I think black looks much smarter (tbh I hate the brown saddle/long black boots together) my bank manager is going to kill me if I like the saddle when I trial it and buy it, hoping it's really comfy and works well as I've heard nothing but good things about it (the Heather Moffet Vogue) and the current saddle my loan horse has makes you feel like someone's whacked your seatbones with a baseball bat.

I had a loan of one when I got my horse on LWVTB and in hind sight I wish I had bought it when offered. Loved it and fitted my coffee table shaped boy like a glove.
Can you show in one?

Things I've found online says yes as it looks like a standard saddle which apparently is the main reason treeless are usually a no is because they look totally different plus the HM saddles aren't actually treeless they are softree. I've been given Heather's number to phone her later to speak to her about the colour so will confirm with her about it then.

Depends....if you are showing at a level that requires a judge to ride you will find many will not like it !

Does that mean the idea of a cheap treed saddle purely for showing might be a good idea in the future? I'm totally new to showing so had no idea anyone else rode your horse at a show.

When showing we had a Maxim saddle for everyday use in Black , very sturdy and has lasted years and a very expensive Brown suede Working Hunter saddle for showing - it is hardly used infact the pony is now semi retired and no longer shows so we will be PX it for a good saddle for Charlie, he will have a cheaper one for everyday, it dependents how much showing you are thinking of doing. We have a black cub saddle for Acorn for general use and a smart brown suede saddle for his LR - Bridles in all cases are Brown/Havannah.
Many do show in Black, think a lots dependents on coat colour as well - a smart black set on certain colours can bring it out and change the look, in most cases though Brown is the done thing.

Luca's a bright bay so black makes her colour really stand out I think and if I have my own horse of that breed in the future chances are likely it will be grey or bay as they are the most common colours for PREs.
This summer the lady who owns Luca has been out at every show in the county with her horses so next summer I'm hoping to join her with Luca (need to work out what ridden classes an Andalusian can do first lol) and if I can pass a trailer test so I can tow a horse trailer maybe see what shows a bit further afield I could take Luca too

Sorry I didn't realise you had an Andalucian, that is altogether a different showing scene...You need to look into the turnout for their classes as I think people turn out in classical Spanish tack???

None of the local/county shows up here have classes for Spanish horses so she'd be just doing 'standard' classes like riding horse, show hack etc locally (I'm not sure what her breed of horse would come under as to what type of ridden classes she could do as I don't have a clue it's set breeds that are hunters, hacks, riding horses etc??).
So far this summer she's just been doing the in hand potential ride and drive class as her owners hurt her knee so can't ride but I'd like to get her out in some ridden classes next year (doing tack and turnout and best condition horse classes tomorrow to break me in very gently to showing lol)
Will have a look at the BAPSH link, thanks!
