I know there have been threads on how good these are - I would very much like a pair but can't afford the £100+ that they cost

Not sure if you have seen the Muck Boot Company 'Tyne' but I have bought some and they are the best thing since sliced bread.
The have tappered top and reinforced toe, neoprine outer, they are not as smart so not for shows but winter riding in them is a joy! No cold feet there. I bought some for £53.00 but generally retail a £60.

Thanks Nat17 - I've just been on there and found the ones you mentioned I think I will try out my local saddlers and see if they stock them and may very well invest.

By the way, dont be put off if they are tough to get off in the shop, they get better after a week or so when they mold to you

Possibly a bit warm for high summer, but the rimfrost riders are almost as comfy and a lot tougher and cheaper. Mountain horse refused to repair my high riders as I bought them more than 12 months ago. They fell to pieces round one of the heels, not what you expect for the money

i got the m h high riders for x mas and its the best bit of gear ive ever had, i got them for £90 at www.buckaroobiz.co.uk and they are brill

I finally have a piar ofhigh riders (i pick them up from my tack shop tonight) but the tops are quite high and they only have the wide fittings in a short - is this right?? If so do the fronts drop slightly as it coming over my knee cap and could be uncomfortable to ride in??

they do drop quite a bit once worn in. mine have dropped over an inch.

Mine have dropped too even though I don't wear them often (tend to stick to my steel-toe caps) - I also use the little "heel risers" with them which stop them digging into the back of my knees. (edited to say because I am a munchkin, and no they don't do them shorter except for "wide", as appartently all shorties have wide legs

I think they have improved the quality recently too - apparently they had some issues with the older ones. I haven't had any issues but they don't come out of the cupboard that often!

yes they do drop considerably which leaves you with a nora battie type ankle but its part of the style. I have now 3 pairs black brown and sportive (must be a slight MH fetish emerging) and love them all. Money well spent.
