Try rubbing lard/cooking oil/Vaseline inside your horse's hooves to stop the snow balling up in them.

You can laugh if this is really stupid, but has anyone tried using the vegetable oil spray instead of smearing on the thicker stuff? I read the label...nothing artificial so I think I'm gonna try it. I'll let you know if it works.

Works, but the temperature has not gone far below freezing. Still lots of snow, though!

Snow ball hooves

I tried everything. Pam spray, vaseline, corn oil, hoof creams, etc. I finally gave up and stalled my horse. He hates it, but the snowballs were so huge inside his shoes I thought he'd twist an ankle, and I can't pull his shoes cause his feet split. So better safe than sorry... Marge
