this is a recipe that i give my favourite horse at the stables where i ride ecspecially when we had a great lesson.
(this makes a BIG batch)

3 and 1/2 cups of oatmeal
1 and 1/2 cups of brown sugar
3 apples chopped up into small peices
1 and 1/2 cups of molasses

spread mixture into two 8x10 pans or a bigger sized one and bake the mixture at 400f. for 30 minutes. after you take them out of the oven set the pan right into the fridge for half an hour. then take them out and cut the mixure in to squares and put them into a container for your horse. warning- when you cut them in squares and take them out if they are warm and sticky on the bottom put the in the container upside down and if you have more than one layer of treats in the container separate the layers with a peice of tin foil or wax paper. enjoy!

MMMMM!

Sounds good enough for people too (maybe not so much molasses ). I'm going to try this one - the horses probably get tired of carrots and apples.

How long do they keep or can the recipe be reduced without altering quality?

You might try parchment paper or waxed paper at the bottom of the pan to make things less stick and easier to remove.

yummy treats

hi,
my horse kate loves theses treats. you can reduce it if you want but mine kept for over a month(but i doubled the batch because if i didn't i think they would be gone in a week) if you dont want them so sticky you could probably use 1 cup of molasses. if you want to get more recipes go to http://www.horse-country.com and then go to the recipe section. well i have to go now. bye.

Treats

Not really a recipie, but my horse doesnt seemed bored of carrots and apples, but i didnt want to give her anything too sugary since she is hi strung so i give her ice cubes with a bit of sugar in them. She loves it!!. My vet said just to make them a bit soft so the teeth arent harmed.

softer

you just leave them out for a bit so that they melt a little. You have to make them big though so the horse does not accidentally swallow it whole.
