fly deterrent

vinegar! anyone else use vinegar as a fly spray ont heir horse?

yeh..well most hroses i have ridden to date the owner shave gone and bought fly spray from the horsie shop or i would use my teatree oil on them that i use on myself againts bugs...
btu at the yard where the hro sei share it the owner..and everyone else ther euses vinegar...it stinks...but only whilst you are spraying it on the horse..you dont smell it after...the worst is i have to put a little vinegar ont eh horses face because it gets really annoyed with flies there and my hand stinks afterwards..luckily there is a tap and bottl of soap of soap in the takc room so its suferable!
i didnt half have a shock though when iw as using it because i thought it was normal fly spray until i sprayed it

I read about these home-remedies for fly spray and wonder how people can stand the smell of them (garlic, onions, vinegar, etc.) mixed with horse sweat, on a hot summer day? Not very pleasing to the nose!

i have to say although fly spray is expensive i do like coopers fly repellant it lasts 3/4 days, it even kill the flies that still decide to land on your horse, and one bottle lasted me the whole summer, on my horse which suffers badily with sweet itch, smells not to bad, the avearage price is £17.00
Although thats £17.00 a year, if you spread that price out, it seems worth it!

If your horse hates spray-on fly repellants, use roll-on human ones. I use one from Boots on my horse. It lasts for ages and costs about £3. You just draw it on!

yup they are the same things...damned flies..
iwas out riding today..the weather was amzing warm...yesterdays snow gone...i sprayed my horse and my friends horse with their dose of vinegar..the horses had a fly free ride pretty muc ah nd me and my friends were swamped by the little buggers...So peopl..when you think of spraying your hrose with fly stuff before going out riding dont forget to bring along some tee-balm stuff for yourself!

i normally end up with more on myself than on the horse anyway, so i normally am fly free.

this thread was started before the other one ..its my fault..i started this one and used the word deterrent instead of repellant..but when you live in foreign countries it gets difficult to remember which word s right
