endurance riding is brilliant. start with a pleasure ride 10 miles upwards to 20 miles. then if you like it join one of the societies. ehps berc serc. you can then do training rides or competive rides. a horse can enter competively at 5 yrs old. you do so many rides at 20 miles then move on. depending who you are with. you need basic equipment, but a first aid kit carried in a bum bag, this inclused a whistle, space blanket, glusose tablets, bandage.the rides are done at different speeds pleasure rides 5.99 pr hr min and 7mph max you have to be within these times. in competive rides you name your speed (in scotland) anyway.)you have a vet check at the begining and at the end. the horse can not start if his heart rate is too high over 69? i think or lame. at the end he is checked again after the ride as you come in you hand in your paper and they give you a time to see the vet you have to present your horse in that time to qualify. a log if you have one is filled in then and your miles added.
