2nd Lesson update

Hello

I had my second lesson at the other school today & what a difference! Lucky me, we were indoors. I had a lovely great cob called Duchess, but I think it might have been a tad early for her

I had fab time! We did cantering today My new (and very lovely instructor!) said my transitions from walk to trot & canter were really good!
I’m chuffed to bits as she also said my seat is good too, knees in the right place etc but (there’s always a but!) I’m having trouble with keeping my toes in. She said I shouldn’t worry too much about it yet as I still have to let my muscles & tendons get used to the new position. I got cross with myself when the stirrups slipped so I got told to chill!

My instructor had a good talk to me towards the end about positive mental attitude and to stop saying sorry to the horse all the time She said a bit more canter work and then straight on the pole work! She wants me jumping as soon as poss. I think it’s a confidence thing & because I’m conscious of my problem areas she doesn’t want to dwell on them, keep moving forward and it’ll all fall into place.

I’m so please she wants to push me along; she’s given me a massive boost today. It’s what I need otherwise I get board. I can’t wait for the Jumping bit!

I love my new instructor! It changed my whole attitude and as she was so positive and relaxed, so was I. The horses seemed much happier than the other place, really fussed over and well looked after. So I’m booked to go back next Wednesday (can’t afford to go more often at the moment ) I’ve got to phone the other school and cancel.

Ok, I know, I know…I’ll shut up now. Can you tell I’m a tiny bit happy?

Legs stilll ache really badly but I managed to get them shut so I could drive home this time! PMSL

Great stuff - there's nothing quite like the high of a good lesson and a good instructor makes all the difference. Onwards and upwards.

Yay, sounds great!!! Do you want to say which school you were at? (If not in public then via PM maybe?

I love the post-lesson high when you've had a good session

The new school is The Seagold Centurion Equestrian Centre, Hunwick, Bishop Auckland, Co Durham. Highly recommended

Thanks for your kind words folks, I know it's probably too much too soon and I'm going to have a massive downer sometime (soon probably)but I haven't stopped smiling yet!

Your new instructor sounds wonderful. She sounds as she knows just what to say and do to help build your confidence and get you focusing on the right things. There are plenty of people who are good riders or can work well with horses, but the best instructors know how to work well with their human students too. Yours sounds like just that type.
