what should i do

hey everyone

im 16 and i've just left school but i have no idea what i want to do for a job, i am going back to sixth form to do A-levels but i dont what to do after.

I've always wanted to work with horses and the only thing holding me back is my parents, they want me to have a '''proper office job''', no offence to ne1 who works in an office but theres no way i could be stuck inside all day.

does ne1 have any advice about careers with horses, i was going to go to an agricultral college in septemberbut i have decided to do A-levels so i have something to fall back on if my chosen career doesnt work out.

A big one of problems is my parnets because theres lots of stuff they want to me to do that i dont wanna do and if i dont do it they threaten me my sayin that ill have to give up horses which i could never do, i know it probably sounds bad but in my life horses come before everything, i've had horses since i was 5 and once i had a 2yr break from them but i couldnt stand it any longer so i started riding again and then i got another horse last july.

Does ne1 have advice about which direction to go in, i've thought about equine physiotherapist or chiropracter but i odnt really have a clue what to do, i dont wnat to teach though.

sorry this thread is long and i could go on for ages more but i dont wanna bore u all(if i havnt already)

What about a veteranarian? You could specialise in animals of the equine persuasion. I don't know much about how schools work over there, but could you do it?

Animal psychology?
Farrier?
Physio therapy, have to do human first.
Chiropractic?
At least with some of the above you have a career to fall back on if you decide horses arn't for you.

Dentist? Ours came to the yard today and took away over £300 for a few hours work. Not easy work, mind you, but must be very rewarding. Or what about saddlefitter?

Katie_85: There are six vet schools here and they take a total of 400 students a year between them. It is the most popular course in England but the most over-subscribed.
Elle - If you want to do vet stuff then go for it, it'll need loads of work experience and good results but if that's what you want then do it. What A-levels are you taking? That will help you decide. I'm starting mine next year too.
You could be in the mounted police or move to Canada and be a proper Mountie!

Have a look at myerscough college,(www.myerscough.ac.uk ).they specialise in animals and have loads of horsey coarses. You could do a coarse there after A levels. They seem to have very good facilities and your parents shouldn't mind, more education!

i did think about the mounted police but just as iwas going to the police cadettes ther got rid at the horses in my district, staffordshire, u probably read about it, it was in most horsey magazines.

the A-levels im takin are PE, Biology, Business Studies and maybe chemistry

i have also thought about going into livery ownership but then u have to a job before that to get the money to buy a livery yard.

Have you looked at degrees in Equine Science - your school/college should be able to advise you what colleges offer them - they are supposed to be geared to people who want to work in the 'horse industry' and if you decided full time horses weren't for you I think they aim to give you reasonably transferable skills as well (which should please your parents!).
