I and my husband have been learning to ride in the UK since January. We are both inour 40s. In November we are spending a few days on a dude ranch in Artizona. The rides include LOPING. What is this? Any tips on riding Western for a novice English rider woiuld also be appreciated. Many thanks. I have learnt such a lot from this site.

hello!

Have a fab holiday! Loping is the Western term for cantering. That is all the help I can give you with Western riding, but I am sure that someone else can give you more tips!

bye!

Welcome to the horse world...hey I just had a GREAT idea.

Sorry, you'll have to ignore my idiot things that I might post once in a while.

ANYWAY...loping means the exact same as cantering in English, except in western terms. By this I mean style of riding, not whether you're from Western North America or from England.

Carole - I'm hoping to visit the states next year for a horse holiday, and I'd love to know how your ranch vacation goes...do post a message when you're back. And I hope the loping goes well!

Just today I heard about a great dude ranch
near Tucson called Tanque Verde. Just visited
its website. I would love to take my family
on such a vacation. Have fun. Sally
