Cracked Heels

If your horse suffers from cracked heels in the winter dont spend lots on expensive ointments make your own it will cost you less than £1. per tub. Use White Petroleum Jelly Scoop it out of the pot into a pan add about 3 desert spoons of olive oil, approx 5 to 6 drops of Tea-tree oil, the same of Lavender oil and a splash of citronella (just for a nice smell). Mix it well and let it cool for about 10 mins before pouring it back into the pot. Put the pot in the fridge and Hey-Presto you have your cracked heal ointment. Use this as a preventative and rub it well in every 2 to 3 days round the heels and well up the back of the leg area. This will form an excellent barrier to prevent mud soaking in and will help you to brush dried mud off easily.
